"The cause of the cancer is uncertain, and we cannot conclude that lorcaserin contributes to the cancer risk," the alert said."However, we wanted to make the public aware of this potential risk. We are continuing to evaluate the clinical trial results and will communicate our final conclusions and recommendations when we have completed our review."
The FDA alert about Belviq includes both the tablet form and the extended release version of the pill .as a prescription drug to help overweight and obese adults lose weight. It works by making people feel full. The study that raised FDA concerns comes from the drug's manufacturer, Eisai. The company study tracked about 12,000 participants who took either the medication or a placebo over a five-year period.
"More patients taking lorcaserin were diagnosed with cancer compared to patients taking placebo, which is an inactive treatment. Our evaluation of this potential signal is ongoing, and at this time it is uncertain if lorcaserin increases the risk of cancer," the alert said. The FDA suggests that patients on lorcaserin speak with their doctors about whether the benefits of taking the weight management pill outweigh any potential risks.
Omygosh. Making money off people who really just need to change their diets and exercise. There will never be a “magic pill”. That’s insane. I don’t even want to know what’s in that much less put it in my body!
And yet, it approved it ......
if you oatmeal, fresh fruit and vegetables everyday you loose weight w/o exercise. You gotta measure the salad dressing, it’s usually a capful...don’t use butter, sugar, milk on oatmeal.. teaspoon of honey Is cool... Read food labels. If you can’t pronounce it don’t eat it...
May have....Come back when you have proof. Not News. Just filler.
you mean beside 80 percent of the things we consume by mouth? no
If you're using something like this to begin a lifestyle change, it may be worth the short term risk. Obesity comes with a cancer risk. If you weight 300lbs or so, your risk factor for cancer is no joke. You have to look at the overall risk and compare the risk/benefit.
Weight loss drug “eat less and move more” linked to longer life, healthier outcomes, zero risk.
Sounds safe to me.
I’m going to need the FDA to quit approving drugs that cause cancer. That’s not helpful. Work with me: while cancer fixes the weight problem, it rather accelerates the whole mortality and expiration date
Interesting, the California EPA released a report on the carcinogenicity of Marijuana and there was no media coverage. No public warning. No warning labels. Would you please do a story on it?
