Authorities have not released the identity of the 45-year-old victim. Her passenger, a man, 51, suffered minor injuries, Gurnee Police said Friday.
Witnesses told police the car had been traveling at a high rate of speed and passing other vehicles just before the crash. She presumably lost control of the car and hit the pole, police said.
