“I was at a Cirrus event and someone tried to summon their Tesla past a $3,500,000 Vision jet….” the caption to the post reads. Smart Summon is meant to be used when the vehicle is no more than 200 feet away, and within eyesight. Other stipulations apparently include not being around private aircraft.
“I also drive a Tesla Model Y,” the poster mentions in a comment, “…but was not the poor soul who summoned his Tesla around several expensive aircraft – only to crash it into the most expensive one !” It’s not the first time the use of Tesla’s Smart Summon has acted up on video. A clip shot in a Richmond, B.C. parking lot in 2019 documents one
as it tried to autonomously make its way to its driver, prompting provincial insurance provider ICBC to warn owners that incidents that occur while Smart Summon is active may not be covered under their policies.
