The concentrations in Saskatoon were the fourth-highest value seen during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to U of S toxicologist Dr. John Giesy, concentrations of the virus found in wastewater samplings in Saskatoon, Prince Albert and North Battleford increased week-over-week and “remained high” during the most recent reporting period. The Omicron variant accounted for 100 per cent of the recorded COVID-19 virus, with the BA.5 subvariant contributing to 47.7 per cent of the viral load in Saskatoon and 41.8 per cent in North Battleford. Since Saskatchewan no longer reports daily COVID-19 data and relies on rapid antigen tests for testing in the general population, wastewater data is one of the best indicators available for how the virus is spreading.Article content
