Washingtonians learned two things last week. They learned that the President of the United States and the Speaker of the House can’t stand to be in the same room together for even half an hour.

They also learned that the hometown Washington Nationals—the Nats, as all here know them—are going to the World Series, the first time a Washington team has done so since 1933.
