NPR reached out to the public health departments that serve the most populous cities in the U.S. Only one of the 15 largest cities had their most current pandemic response plan posted publicly online.

from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which provides public health guidance to state and local governments, specifically urges clear communication during a pandemic, saying"timely and strong lines of communication will ensure the consistency and effectiveness of information and local decision making before and during a pandemic.

Brett-Major says local plans can help lay out how a city government will tackle the ripple effects of a pandemic, like what happens if hospitals run out of masks or no longer have enough health care workers. "Plans provide a framework for how people might work together," says Brett-Major."And so the existential value of doing these plans is that people suddenly realize what their interests are. They've had time to think about it. And they've also started to realize who else they might have to reach in order to be able to attain those interests."

"They happen in fits and spurts when really they ought to be dynamic," Brett-Major says."Our attention follows the news cycle."

The United States had one, until 2018 when it was disbanded and everyone fired.

My city's plan is to do an initial diagnosis and decide on one of two destinations for each elderly patient - hospital or crematorium. This saves so much time. I'm kidding ... I think.

And NO, moron hand rail lickers, this ISN’T Trump’s fault.

and then of course there's NYC who's mayor and governor delayed any response for far too long until it was too late.

All the more reason not to buy in to all the goofiness pouring out of City halls nation wide.

No worries. They’ll just keep pointing the finger somewhere else. In fact, that might just be what they have written down in their pandemic plans. 🤫

Cities are planning for riots from certain groups and planning for the level of response needed. Get your guns and ammunition ready to protect your children and property.

Most of the larger cities in America are run by Democrats, who are now crying that the President hasn’t done enough.

That’s sad. Politicians forget who they work for.

Bet they are all better than the federal response under Trump which has been a dumpster fire disaster.

Many didn’t have a plan until 3 weeks ago or less.

extremely prepared nation we have here it seems

Frighteningly, Colorado has been more proactive than most states.
