Walmart will begin limiting how many people are allowed inside its stores at one time — reducing its capacity to roughly 20% — as a way to enforce social distancing.

The retail giant joins Target, Costo and other supermarket chains in deciding to count and restrict the number of visitors to keep shoppers at least six feet apart — from each other and from the workers — hoping to limit the spread of the coronavirus. "While many of our customers have been following the advice of the medical community regarding social distancing and safety, we have been concerned to still see some behaviors in our stores that put undue risk on our people," Walmart's Dacona Smith saidSmith, chief operating officer of Walmart U.S., also cited states and cities setting"varying policies regarding crowd control.

Walmart says it will allow no more than five shoppers per 1,000 square feet of space at a given time. Target, whose shopper restrictions also kick in on Saturday, did not specify the numberRetailers have been urging people to go shopping as rarely as possible, in the smallest groups possible and as quickly as possible. Supermarkets remind patrons to keep a distance from others both while shopping and while standing in line.

Walmart says it will begin using only one entryway at each store, keeping track of visitors and reminding them to stay a proper distance while they wait to go in, especially before the store opens in the morning.

ShelbyRatifyERA They limited the number of checkers to 1 or 2 people years ago

So limit the number of people inside but have them queue up outside the door, breathing virus all over each other?

Rochester, NH, business as usual. Just drove past Walmart and people going in and out as usual.

How do you maintain 20% in your stores because it wasn’t happening today in the Walmart at Market Place Blvd. in Irving, Texas. Not only was there a lot of people like a usual day at Walmart but not enough registers open to check people out....and had a younger couple be rude!!!

Will not be going back, the exposure is worse now than before. Hire a epidemiologists we know how to do it.

You obviously have no idea what you doing! As result Corvid19 numbers will increase. Went to Walmart yesterday, the one way entrance was a bottleneck of people stacked up to go in no social distancing. The one beneficial part was having the person wipe down the carts.

Idiotic whats next only 1 person in the building at a time 😡😡

Maybe they can start putting more employees back on online ordering with less people in the store. Hard to get times for pick up or delivery.

About time

I work at a warehouse for wal mart. They are doing almost nothing in there. Working side by side with others. Business as usual

Close everything but the grocery dept. no one needs to buy a fucking tv at Walmart right now. Order it online

So now there will be long lines outside with people standing next to each other. This is a catastrophe!

OMG... 🇨🇦 we’ve been doing this for weeks already... the US is lost.

20% apparently means 500 people at linden nj store it's ridiculous

In my local Walmart the other day, groups of people were gathering in the largely empty aisles where cleaning supplies are normally stocked. As I went by, I overheard them mostly complaining about the empty shelves. I try to maintain distance when there isn't a pandemic. Morons.

That would limit some of the shootings

IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!

Big escalation. Saturday is a big shopping day so we’ll see how it goes. balajis

It’s too crowded because they cut their hours of operation too much!!!! Walmart

So that’s why they had me walk thru yellow tape lines yesterday morning. StayHome

They’re doing this NOW!!!? We’d have they been doing for the last 3 weeks!? Unreal

Walmart needs to take advice from WholeFoods market

Posted today in a Facebook group for a community in Oregon:

Something walmart should revisit during the Thanksgiving Week madness this holiday season; just sayin.

I told my husband I refuse to set foot in a Walmart until well after things are back to some sense of normalcy.

Just keep TP and Clorox wipes in stock

Thank you Wallmart!

Walmart just woke up. Several big and small stores have been doing this for the last 3+ weeks.

Costco started that two weeks ago today in Canada.

Oh my word

People should not be shopping in stores! We need to have all stores switch to online shopping/then drive up pick up- This way everyone stays safe!

Coming Soon: People of Walmart, lineup edition.

Ppl are getting info from workers regarding days of deliveries so they can be at the doors when they open and clean out the pallets. Disgusting and selfish. Then ppl try to return toilet paper so Wal-Mart refuses those returns.🤣 That's what happens when you deprive others...🤷‍♀️

If their competitors don’t do the same - and they won’t - Walmart may go bankrupt!

Finally!!

This is the beginning of the new normal. Population saturation control within buildings will be what slows the pandemic. Immune workforce and comprehensive rolling attendance of non-infected is the only solution to embrace. Think elevator people limit replacing weight limit.

THANK GOD. My last trip was a horror show. And that was *with* maybe 1/5 of people there masked up. Everyone not masked was behaving exactly as normal - shopping in groups, hanging out and visiting, wandering aimlessly... It was pretty goddamn terrible.

Finally!

I may have to hang out in the parking lot for free entertainment. You know there will be arguments and fights. PeopleofWalmart

PrincessBravato I don’t know why all stores haven’t already implemented this. I live in Oregon and the New Seasons and 365 (a Whole Foods store) stores I visited have this in place. ALL need to do this.

In PuertoRicoPUR only 5 people can emter at the time and you must wear mask and gloves, they check your temperature at the entrance and disinfect every single 🛒 cart plus they give you disinfecting wipes and the floor are mark every 6’ for social distance

Rationing of Household goods by limiting access to those Goods, You Weak minded Communist Pedophile fools at National Pravda Radio must be celebrating the complete downfall of Democracy and the Rise of Globalizm, All hail Moloch and pass the walnut sauce

Their workers should be getting hazard pay and a massive massive pay raise plus benefits.

Better late than never, I guess?

Good job, Walmart. Thanks!

As they should. My local Costco today had a 25 person at a time limit and spaced out lines leading outside the store.

Well... now what am I gonna do... 😳 crap

From cough shields for their cashiers to this new capacity limit, Walmart is doing an awesome job taking care its employees and customers! Very impressive!

Virtual reality walk through of the store to shop.

Every store should do this give people a time limit like say twenty minutes maximum and if they go over limit kick them out.

As all our markets in B.C. 🇨🇦

They’re already doing it here (NE Ohio). My husband went yesterday and they only let people in a little at a time.

Wegmans needs to do the same. It was crowded! Not safe to shop like that. I'm glad HomeDepot is limiting 100 people inside only.

Took long enough, like to know how many employees came down w Covid19 and how many died due to thier lack of getting protection for their employees. Walmart I hope whoever got sick & or died die to your depraved indifference sues you!

**After coronvirus killed two workers who worked in the same store in Evergreen Park, Illinois.**

All grocery stores should adopt that measure

It’s about time

It's now April. How many more stores are still trying to figure it out? Wish there was a real shut down instead.

Target’s is 290. Our target rarely, if ever, outside of Christmas time, has that many people in it.

Walmart doing the right thing. And POTUS not. Who woulda thought?1?

Nice after 7k reported deaths;who knows if more

Thank goodness. It's ridiculous how many large groups are still shopping together. One person per household is not a difficult concept.

Bring on the next panic buying 👏🏻

So what! There are far more important topics to address. WALMART!! HAH! Oh right. It’s home of the base. Super topic.

Walmart to limit the number of shoppers, as part of coronavirus responseWalmart to limit the number of shoppers as part of its response to the coronavirus pandemic starting Saturday, April 4, to promote social distancing. So people can bunch together lined up outside. Brilliant! I would be happier if they only allowed 1 person per family to shop. There are far too many families with teenagers shopping together. No wonder the US is getting hit so hard on a per capita basis vis a vis Canada. I'm surprised this wasn't done earlier and mandated by government. I went to a local Cdn Costco and they were only letting 50? (maybe a bit more) people at a time in their stores
