Campaign finance violations are also a type of federal election offense. Story continuesThe Electoral College played a major role in Trump's 2016 victory. The practice traces its history to 1787 and was intended as a compromise between a direct popular vote and Congress picking the president. States are allocated electors based on how many representatives it has in the House, plus its two senators.

Poll workers are often required to be registered voters. "Especially in local contests, with lower voter turnout, it is not uncommon for a handful of votes to determine the outcome of the election," guidance from the U.S. Election Assistance Commission reads."A recount provides an opportunity for an election official to ensure that all the ballots cast are counted accurately and that the correct candidate or ballot issue wins."

De Blasio, AOC chide NYC elections board over long waits for early votingNYC Mayor Bill de Blasio called on the Board of Elections to deploy more voting machines at early voting sites and expand hours after a weekend of long lines for New Yorkers casting their ballots I went and voted today at Madison Sq Garden. 30 minutes. Line moved. All good. Historical moment with first ever woman to be sworn in by two purported sexual predators !!!! Given that 99% of NewYork votes for Democrats, I admire New Yorkers for coming out to wait in long lines. Most of them could have stayed at home and every Democrat would still have won.
