In navigating the era of COVID-19, she found friendship and support from someone unexpected: her ex-husband. hramer has today’s AP Virus Diary.

This April 8, 2020, photo shows cookies, a cake and rolls of toilet paper delivered to the writer from her ex-husband in Hopkinton, N.H. This writer has found a surprising source of support over the last few months: Her ex-husband.

Frankly, I never thought I’d have an ex-husband, let alone one who has a new husband. And I certainly never imagined he’d become a main source of support during a global pandemic. Like other divorced parents, we’ve had to weigh the risk of sending our 15-year-old son back and forth between our homes during a pandemic — a topic that wasn’t covered in the excruciatingly awkward, mandatory co-parenting class we took when we split up. Initially, we stuck to our 50-50 custody schedule, and I even spent a day at his house when a snowstorm knocked out power to mine. Later, we decided it was safer for our son to stay with me, which lasted for a long, challenging month.

VIRUS DIARY: A Memorial Day visit, altered but not stoppedSILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) — I won’t be visiting Adam this Memorial Day weekend. COVID-19 is seeing to that. Since 2010 I have visited section 60, grave 8397 of Arlington National Cemetery... GEDFIELDS Nothing is more important to me on memorial day then remembering in 2012 my fucking country used me to guard poppy (and burn harmless cannabis fields) and destabilize for Zionist Israel in Afghanistan GEDFIELDS Thank you for writing this. It touched me deeply. This young man’s act of bravery and also of thoughtful decency cost him his life. Whether or not we agree with our country’s choice to go to war, he and so many others, deserve to be honored. Their sacrifice is immeasurable. GEDFIELDS Sure, I disagree fundamentally on a thousand things - but I want everyone to enjoy life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness - to be free to practice their faith openly. For me to be rich or poor in goods does not matter as much as being rich in God's sustenance, love and grace.
