Washington Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam will announce on Thursday plans to remove a statue honoring Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee from Richmond's historic Monument Avenue, a move that comes amid a national reckoning with America's complicated racial history.
Northam, a Democrat, plans to make the announcement during a news event in Richmond, a source in the governor's office told CNN on Wednesday. The Associated Press first reported Northam's impending announcement.The Richmond city government also announced on Wednesday that the city's mayor and a city council member will -- on July 1 -- introduce an ordinance to bring down all the Confederate monuments on Monument Avenue in the former capital city of the Confederacy.
Imagine having a statue of General Charles Cornwallis in Richmond. It would be the same thing. It would made no sense.

You certainly can't change history but you can certainly change the future. Removing a historical statue doesn't change the future. It's worth nothing, just a waste of time, money and efforts. Remove racism and discrimination from the system as such and it's worth everything.
That’s too bad. He was one of the worlds greatest military tacticians. As a decendent of 5 relatives who fought for the confederate states I’m extremely proud of the sacrifice my family made in the formation of our country.

Many deserving famous Virginians can easily take their place along the avenue. History doesn’t change because a statue is moved, but the future certainly can. Let’s move forward.

Removing monuments does not erase America's history, attempting to hide it from future generations will not delete it either. It is a must to remember past mistakes, so we are not doomed to repeat it. Yet, look closely...It is slowly repeating, in reverse.

We don't like a section of our history do we remove. Let's just pretend that whole Civil War thing never happened. Because most people don't know it was fought over states rights not slavery.
