The elections in the Commonwealth of Virginia and their results will be key in determining how the nation will vote in the midterms, and provide key indicators for political and governing strategies in the years to come. Both New Jersey and Virginia will elect new Governors and members of their House chambers in November, but it's the results from Virginia that will be more closely watched and examined for information.
If Youngkin is able to win or at least make it a close race, it will be a telling sign as to the true motivation of voters when Trump is not on the ballot. Trump has been a big factor in elections when he was either in office or on the ballot. One key question that the elections in Virginia will answer is whether democratic voters feel energized enough to come out and vote when the mission isn't necessarily to stop Trump.
One such county is Chesterfield County, just South outside of Richmond. Chesterfield County is a county that has been trending away from the GOP over the last 10 years. The county as a whole has backed statewide GOP candidates as recently as 2017. However, BidenNovember 2020 analysis
