A candlelit vigil will be held Tuesday night in San Francisco for 40-year-old Michelle Go, the Bay Area native killed this past weekend after being shoved onto the subway tracks at the Times Square station in New York City.for 6 p.m. at Portsmouth Square, according to a Dear Community social media post. The event coincides with the vigil being organized by Asians Fighting Injustice at the Red Steps in Times Square.

Police officers discovered Go with “severe trauma to her body” under the train, where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel. Authorities said she was on the train platform and was “suddenly pushed” by a man, later identified as 61-year-old Simon Martial, onto the tracks in an “unprovoked” attack. Martial was charged with murder.

“We are in a state of shock and grieving the loss of our daughter, sister, and friend,” the statement read in part. “We hope Michelle will be remembered for how she lived and not just how she died. She was a beautiful, brilliant, kind, and intelligent woman who loved her family and friends, loved to travel the world and to help others.”

“As we all know, it is not easy to stay in touch with friends for over 20 years, but somehow someway, Michelle and I found a way to stay in touch, no matter how busy we got,” Keflezighi wrote in the post on Monday.
