UPDATE: Verizon and AT&T say they will temporarily limit 5G service around some airports, in the wake of airlines warning about 'catastrophic' disruption from this week's rollout.

in early January, but reversed course and agreed to the two-week delay.

As the 5G service goes live Wednesday, the FAA has said it will take the precaution of prohibiting pilots from using altimeters during landing at more than 80 airports near 5G sites. The airline said the resulting chaos could potentially negatively affect as many as 1.25 million United passengers.

Just bad management on the airlines part.

Yeah, the airlines were caught behind the 8 ball on this one!
