A bill that would encourage Utah communities to bump Halloween festivities — like trick-or-treating — to the last Friday in October every year, passed out of a Senate committee meeting and will go to the full Senate for a final vote.

, said his bill would provide a big benefit to parents and teachers across the state.

"We're not so presumptuous to think that here in Utah, we're going to change the date of Halloween," Cullimore told the committee. "What it does, is it says that we would like to recognize the celebration of Halloween to be the last Friday of October." It would also be beneficial for workplace Halloween celebrations, where offices often dress up to celebrate the holiday.

Royann Gregerson is a Utah elementary school teacher who said she's been wanting a bill like this for 30 years.

This is pushing me to move away from Utah. Utah loves tradition as long as it relates to religion. This bill is the most dumbass thing I have seen.

So what happens when Christmas, New Year’s, 4th of July or Pioneer Day is on a weekday? What a waste of time and taxpayer dollars

The LDS church needs to be stopped. They have controlled the lives of people for far too long.

Why in the hell does utah have to screw with everything...I do not agree with this, leave It alone!!

Things keep getting more bizarre by the hour in this country and in this state.

This is NOT what elected officials should be focused on. FFS. Y'all better beware, the gov is piece by piece taking away freedom, we are on course to be the next China or Russia.

Dumb

In that case why not just have it in July when it's warmer?

Another complete waste of time by the Utah legislature that rails against government control yet sticks its fingers into every aspect of our lives. When they tell us they are against big government don’t believe them. They are only against what they don’t like utleg

Utah is suppose to be a conservative state. Obviously the California cancer is taking over. Why do we need government to tell us when to trick or treat? Anytime government gets involved in our lives we lose another freedom.

So offensive to once again legislate mormonism by moving an ancient holiday to a night that fits 'thechurch'... it's not like there are major religions whose sabbath falls on a Friday night whose members and kids might not want to trick or treat or be bothered on their 'sunday'.

Tackling the real issues here

This from the party that gets upset about being asked to wear a mask in a pandemic. Yet they will happily tell you when to trick or treat, control your access to alcohol, what women can do with our own bodies, and what transgender youth can do with their own bodies.

Put the devil worshippers back in Utah state government...

A bill that encourages? Can’t they just put out a press release? There will be two candy nights.

What a weird Utah thing to do.

Another side to consider is the Teachers who have to teach the next day. My wife teaches and the day after Halloween is the worst. Friday would not be the worst thing. Most so still celebrate on the 31st anyway. Personally, I don't care about Halloween personally.

Not handing out candy at my house unless it is the 31st. Could care less what the government says. How about less government in our lives.

Do. Not. Want.

It's not the worst idea I've ever heard. Doesn't sound like something that needs to be legislated, though.

Awesome!!! Looking forward to the resolution to have the 4th of July on the first Wednesday of the month.

This is what happens when you elect LDS officials. They are worried every 6-7 years we will have Halloween on a Sunday… God forbid anyone knock on an LDS families door on a Sunday, when they do it 7 days a week to everyone else.

Noooo!!! I won’t hand candy out unless it is Halloween!!!

I find the 24th of July holiday celebrations to be very disruptive can we simply combine those with the celebrations at the Fourth of July? Yeah your Halloween suggestion is as stupid as that

So adorable to see our state elected officials attacking those critical public problems.

How about you clowns do something about rampant auto pedestrian hit and run fatalities by raising penalties and accelerating license revocations instead of this worthless crap?

Who will come down on celebrations not meeting this legislation?

Important work at Capitol Hill.

Boo.Hiss.Stupid.

Glad to see we have conquered all of the pressing issues in our state.

Whatever, then I'll at least have the 31st free for Samhain and All Soul's Day.

31st for me…

How is this anything?

is this really a priority for the Senate?

Nope… I’ll give out candy on the 31st

I’m still trick or treating on the 31st no matter what day it falls on.

As Utahns quarrel over abortion, Utah Republican officials push for more restrictions nationwideMembers of Utah's federal delegation, the attorney general and state lawmakers have continued their push to limit access to abortion both in Utah and nationwide in recent days. I’m Mormon that teaches is between woman & God. Unless there’s a listening machine I dont know about it’s only her choice. Anything else is advice & personal opinions. Why? Are you suggesting there's some sort of plausible rationale that relates to overall sound policy? Or that they are throwing out raw red meat to the multitudes of Zion. 'Cause I strongly suspect it is the latter. Good

School voucher bill passes in Utah Senate, heads to Gov. CoxBREAKING - The bill that would designate millions of dollars toward school choice for families passed a final vote in the Utah Senate Thursday and is headed to the desk of Gov. Spencer Cox. The thing none of the people actually want, which is being used to actively destroy public education, as spoken by the person pushing it, is about to become law, because our legislature are beholden only to their lobbyists. Yay! Finally our tax dollars don't have to go to paying for woke indoctrination by radical teachers and school boards. The public education system should be entirely defunded and left to rot.
