Utah reported 11,601 new coronavirus cases on Friday — but skyrocketing hospitalizations and the staggeringly high rates of positive test results suggest cases are being drastically undercounted amid a statewide testing shortage.

unless they have health risks or are likely to expose vulnerable people.

State health officials have said the positivity rate would have to drop to 3% to suggest the virus is under control. Instead, 29% of the test results reported Friday were positive. Meanwhile, the state reported 11 deaths on Friday, bringing the total to 4,030 since the pandemic began. ICUs in the state’s larger, “referral” hospitals are now at 93% capacity — above the 85% threshold that hospital administrators have said is necessary to leave room for unpredictable staffing levels, new patients and availability of specialized equipment and personnel. Statewide, 89% of all ICU beds are filled.

Good thing they killed the mask mandate.

Good thing our state reps are looking out for us. Oh shit my bad

Such a preventable tragedy. I know people without Covid who are not going to the hospital because knuckle draggers are taking up the beds.

Boy, good thing the geniuses in our Legislature voted to overturn the mask mandates. Unbelievable. Flu, cold, or covid all come back as a positive test and are added to the care count. Lying with statistics to keep the masses in fear. Don’t ever tell me again the Utah Legislature is Pro-Life. utleg

I hope they took names for the contact tracing. This behavior could actually cause a death. Haven’t they prosecuted people exposing someone to AIDS? Seems like the same thing. utpol utleg

Utah exceeds 4,000 COVID pandemic deaths; case counts remain highThe Utah Department of Health reported 11,608 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday and 22 deaths, bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Utah to 4,019. \n To me that's a lot but to some people in Utah, that's nothing. With vs From - when the “real” numbers come out, this 4000 will be more like 500-1000. What is the total case count?

'Don't let up,' wear high-quality masks, doctors plead: Utah reports record COVID hospitalizationsErin Clouse, strategic engagement manager at U. Health, said Utah is now at the point where hospitalizations are going up steeply. Hospitalizations, she said, typically lag a couple of weeks behind a rise in COVID-19 cases. Hire more people rather than firing people. You’re getting paid for their hospitalization. Expand and adapt. This is already endemic. How about the other diseases people are in the hospital for? Can we get a shout out for better nutrition (including Whole food supplements that target immune health) and lifestyle?
