More than 200 worshippers filled the pews at the Utah Interfaith Pride service to celebrate the lives and loves of the state’s LGBTQIA+ population in song, sermon, poetry and ritual.

Clergy from several Utah congregations greeted worshippers at the Interfaith Pride service at First Baptist Church on Thursday, June 2, 2022, in Salt Lake City. One overarching message echoed through the sanctuary Thursday evening at Salt Lake City’s First Baptist Church: Whatever divinity you believe in loves you.

After each group was mentioned and recognized, a leader from that faith read a litany specific to the tradition. They spoke of liberation and freedom and hope and the search for meaning. “This is the biggest church I’ve ever spoken in,” quipped the Rev. Tyler Marz of the Utah County Community of Christ in the opening of his keynote address.

Finally, he left the LDS Church, which he believes taught “bad theology,” and found a faith “whose doors were wide open to all.”The service was sponsored by the Utah Pride Interfaith Coalition, whose purpose is to “provide a voice and a presence” for those in the queer community “who identify as people of faith.”

Pride Month 2022: What do LGBTQ and LGBTQIA+ mean?LGBTQ+ people have always existed, even if the language seems new. Conversations around sexual orientation and gender are nuanced - and the 'alphabet,' if you will, is expanding. Guys. Gender identity is a pseudoscientific concept created by a guy named John Money. To imply that there is more than one gender is a religious type of hokum. It means you're a bigot if you question what it means... *Let's Get Better at Tolerance?' 😨

Marjorie Taylor Greene Doubles Down On Anti-LGBTQ Rhetoric—Suggests Pride Month ‘Needs To End’Greene said an entire Pride Month “needs to end” days after she baselessly claimed she believes that straight people face extinction within “four or five generations.” That people voted for that heap is disturbing. If someone was courageous enough to play genetics roulette by dropping deposits in your desiccated lady cavern and remained straight, I don't think a month of pride threatens to convert your kind. We don't want y'all anyway. Support right to be a man and woman’s right to be a woman. I support right of science to discover what is causing people to be born with two genders, a physical and psychological gender not the same, support right of people born differently treated with dignity and respect.
