Utah flags lowered to honor lives lost in Illinois mass shooting

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Governor Spencer Cox authorized for flags to be lowered across the state for the rest of the week to honor the victims in a Fourth of July mass shooting in Illinois.

The shooter reportedly killed seven people and injured nearly two dozen others during a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park. Utah flags were lowered to the half-staff position"immediately" on Tuesday and will return to full-staff at sunset on Saturday, July 9. President Joe Biden ordered that flags be lowered across the country in honor of the lives lost in the shooting.

"I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, July 9, 2022," a statement from the President said in part.

Spencer cox should get rid of private gun sales in Utah, or at least require a background check.

Arm all parades.

Americans! Protect yourselves! I understand sniper fire is different, BUT GO BUY GUNS. CAREY GUNS. PROTECT YOUR LOVED ONES.

Give decent upstanding law abiding citizens guns for free and all the ammo they need and I guarantee you all of those murderers will stop killing people.

Yep, the only thing our governor is really effective at is “thoughts and prayers”. 🙄

May those that lost their lives RIP & find strength watch over their loved ones. My those who were wounded physically mentally & emotionally that they too find their strength not to become some1 they are not because of the tragedy that was forced upon them.

Yep, that’ll fix it. 🙄

Glad to see the Gov and our congressional delegation are doing something meaningful to combat the extreme gun violence plaguing our communities. 🤯

Let’s just keep it there.

May as well just cut the top half of the flag pole off. Not like we ever use it in America.

Mental health reform now! Oversight of SSRIs and other antidepressants are desperately needed to prevent these horrors.

Keep it down or fly it upside down

At the rate it's going this year, how about you tell us when we can return old glory back up.

Eventually we'll have flags lowered 365 days a year. I'm not saying it shouldn't be lowered for the senseless deaths. I'm saying stop the shootings.

Thoughts and prayers, never forget the ultimate sacrifices elementary school children and parade goers make to protect gun owners from mild inconveniences.
