Saying that “people are not bargaining chips,” U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken urged China to release two Canadians detained for 1,000 days. Blinken said the U.S. stands by Canada in calling for Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor to be freed.

Canadians Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor were detained in China in what many countries label “hostage politics” after Canada arrested an executive of Chinese tech giant Huawei in 2018 on a U.S. extradition request.

The arrest of Meng Wanzhou, the daughter of Huawei’s founder, infuriated Beijing, which sees her case as a political move designed to prevent China’s rise. The U.S. accuses Huawei of using a Hong Kong shell company called Skycom to sell equipment to Iran in violation of U.S. sanctions. “It’s an extremely difficult milestone, but one that we want to mark in this way, in part, to honor the strength and resilience that Michael and Michael Spavor have shown,″ Kovrig’s former wife, Vina Nadjibulla, said.

US is a liar and a hypocrite. It was Trump who admitted the prosecution on Meng was political, using her as a 'bargaining chip' in the fight with China.

The US 🇺🇸 is doing more than the Canadian government. Embarrassing.

So Canada arrested someone for us and we are mad that China did the exact same thing we are doing?

Canada would also like to formally apologise for thrusting Celine Dion and Justin Beiber onto the world stage.

Can Blinken open his eyes to see the reality that the US has zero leverage on this?

I guess they completely forgot about Assange? Oh wait, that is for their benefit to keep him imprisoned.

The U.S. government can exchange Chinese criminal tycoon Guo Wengui for these two Canadians! This is Guo Wengui's last political value!

How about seize Meng in a 'coincidental' timing when US was trying to kick her father's commpany out of business. That's not a hostage diplomacy I guess, Mr. Blinken. That's a bully from a country to a company. And you even haven't taken that commpany down. What bargaining chip?

'No people are not bargaining chips as the auto industry is far more important' one man said yesterday.

Does a “thousand days” sound better than 3 YEARS. ?

美国的标准:我做什么都可以,你做什么都是错的。

I do hope for the release of these two individuals to be free. Canada and the UK are our closest allies, you hold hostages from one from one of these countries, you might as well hold hostages from the US.

Prosím Čínské vedenie o prepustenie dvoch vezneních Kanaďanom.Ďakujem.

Silly only stick to one side of the story. The longer you hold Ms Meng, the longer the two Michaels will stay in China.

Needs to worry more about the Americans and our real helpers on Afghanistan get out.

Props to SecBlinken for trying to speak human rights with the CCP. Creatures from Mars are better versed.

Just the same way China is urging Canada to release Meng Wanzhou. PERIOD!!

US needs to mind their business.

What is he going to do when China ignores him? Invade?

Screw the Americans in Afghanistan though. 🤡🌎
