Births have been declining in younger women for years, as many postponed motherhood and had smaller families.Birth rates for women in their late 30s and in their 40s have been inching up. But not last year.“The fact that you saw declines in births even for older moms is quite striking,” said Brady Hamilton, of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the lead author of the new report.
The CDC report is based on a review of more than 99% of birth certificates issued last year. The findings echo a recentof 2020 data from 25 states showing that births had fallen during the coronavirus outbreak.ADVERTISEMENTThe pandemic no doubt contributed to last year’s big decline, experts say. Anxiety about COVID-19 and its impact on the economy likely caused many couples to think that having a baby right then was a bad idea.
But many of the 2020 pregnancies began well before the U.S. epidemic. CDC researchers are working on a follow-up report to better parse out how the decline unfolded, Hamilton said.Other highlights from the CDC report:— About 3.6 million babies were born in the U.S. last year, down from about 3.75 million in 2019. When births were booming in 2007, the U.S. recorded 4.3 million births.
— The U.S. birth rate dropped to about 56 births per 1,000 women of child-bearing age, the lowest rate on record. The rate is half of what it was in the early 1960s.— The birth rate for 15– to 19-year-olds dropped 8% from 2019. It’s fallen almost every year since 1991. headtopics.com
— Birth rates fell 8% for Asian American women; 3% for Hispanic women; 4% for Black and white women; and 6% for moms who were American Indians or Alaska Natives.— The cesarean delivery rate rose, slightly, to about 32%. It had generally been declining since 2009.
— Some good news: The percentage of infants born small and premature — at less less than 37 weeks of gestation — fell slightly, to 10%, after rising five years in a row.The current generation is getting further away from having enough children to replace itself.
The U.S. once was among only a few developed countries with a fertility rate that ensured each generation had enough children to replace it. About a dozen years ago, the estimated rate was 2.1 kids per U.S. woman. But it’s been sliding, and last year dropped to about 1.6, the lowest rate on record.

Retired circus elephants get new home with plenty of room to roam
After years of entertaining fans under the big top -- and a few years in retirement -- in Central Florida, a herd of former circus elephants is settling into their new home at a wildlife refuge.
Modernity played the biggest part. Ball is in your court, cis white man. Dismantle the patriarchy and then we’ll talk. Why would that be I wonder 🤔. Oh yea, most millenials/GenZ can’t afford homes or kids. No, this was happening before COVID19 and why would Millenials/GenZ wanna have kids when we’re barely scraping by economically thanks to stupid decisions by older generations of leadership that have destroyed the country leaving a sh*t economy that keeps crashing & burning.
Maybe because of this I mean were kinda headed for a population crisis and we import a lot of our talent from overseas so i dont really see a problem here. Especially heading twords greater and greater automation. My family & friends in Canada have been having babies like crazy the last few months. I know what they were doing doing the initial lockdown & it wasn’t protesting for their freedom.
Watching the world fall apart was probably a contributing factor too we DONT make enough to raise children properly This will continue to plummet when you raise a country of eunuchs Yea well inflation made it impossible to afford a family. Hopefully we continue to see this trend.
I genuinely think reporting on birth rates in america is the biggest waste of time anyone on earth could do. So tired of ppl talking about it. Make having kids free and offer support to those families abd maybe you will get ur precious babies u pedophilic freaks. Also no duh rona Let me explain. You have to be able to actually meet people to have sex.
I didn't get a chance to read the full article yet, but I'm concerned and 'experts' dont know how long a pregnancy is... Who would want to bring a child into this 1st world 3rd world mess of a country? Good restaurants will be more peaceful calm and quiet when we go back to normal life. Thanos would be pleased.
Deaths are on course to outpace births in the US in the next 20 years. This is something we should al be concerned with. population Progress This is exactly what America and the whole planet needs, but many who speak of 'sustainable growth' want the opposite; more people, more roads, more cars, more 'clean energy' blight, and less nature every day. overpopulation EnergySprawl
Birth rates keep DROPPING because of the scam of costs. The costs in the U.S. are way higher than other countries. Our insurance costs, housing costs, college, cost of food, etc. The only thing not high is our crappy wages. We aren't even guaranteed vacation or paid leave!! if birth rate fell 'last year (2020)' that meant they got pregnant in 2019 when covid wasn't even known about, so how did the pandemic have an impact? If the birth rate drops 'this year' you can blame the pandemic.
How much of it is due to the fact that sperm counts are down? Why is it that when we talk about birth rates only a woman's behavior is often mentioned and not the more basic sperm count issue? Did the percentage of in-marriage babies increase? This would indicate a decline in hook-ups and out of wedlock babies.
If you reproduce, you push a new life into web of slavery, you are into. I'm not surprised. Honestly, I wouldn't have minded being aborted. Who wants to struggle just to live. Poor healthcare, outrageous college tuition, underemployment (PT), constant wars, famines, poor soil health, inequality, systemic racism, endless violence... 😢
Why would anyone want to bring children into a country run by liberals where it’s frowned upon to be any race that isn’t a minority and you can be canceled for believing in biology when it comes to make and female? people wised up! I knew at 13 I didnt want kids (Comes from my mother having more when i was 13 I love my siblings, but I knew I didnt want to go through that again)
i agree with bill gates, mass depopulation should happen soon! The weak should always fear the strong. We looked at TedCruz and started using birth control.
Thank god. Less kids better world. If I hear an economist say this is a bad thing I’ll cry. Could it be the flow of birthing generations has hit a majority in an age bracket that got sent to the sand while they were still kids, and came home to being totally disregarded and neglected enough to decide never bringing another sole into this ugly country?
Yah ppl are learning you dont have to have kids. WMN4SRVL My 25 yr old daughter got her tubes tied in 2020. Her Dr etc approved it w/o her having any kids. I tried to have mine tied with each of my last 2 babies, written requests to the hospital I was over 35. The hospital denied me Her Dr said a lot of girls her age are having it done
What the heck is this photo? Can I just ask what the hell this picture is? Like, seriously. It sure as [redacted] isn't falling in Texas. I work in that aspect in healthcare and I can assure you there is no slowing down in that regard. We're actually expanding 2x in capacity every 2-3 years or so. That's not true. People stop having kids b/c they'll grow up in a hateful and hostile country with Republican party ready to punish RepLizCheney for telling the truth to protect our democracy, while R's have no plan to lift up Americans so they'd live the American dream.
The word is getting out that you don’t have to be defined by being a Mom or Dad. Also there is a lot of happiness and freedom with choosing NOT to have kids. I speak from experience: 25yrs married + no kids = happiness. Unlimited naps and the money to have and do more things. hmm wonder why?
Wow. This is news? ajab A news will come from NASA, that a big star is coming that will collide with the Sun and the Solar System will be destroyed. This is a prediction in divine dreams of Qasim, many of his dreams are coming true today. More at Abortion was also a factor. It's simple to know that the pandemic did not give opportunity to people to socialize or come together so it's bound to affect birth rate.
Mostly my fault, I just didn’t feel up to it last year. Wait, but where is this picture from? I get the sentimentality but this looks awful. Only selfish people are breeding Sounds like a good thing to me. No healthcare Public School is a joke College is expensive but for the privileged few, and is ultimately just a scam Modern life requires moving constantly, little opportunity to put down roots Climate Change Who would bring a kid into this world?
Custody court makes it unhealthy and unwise to give birth again as an American woman. No one in their right mind would have another baby afterwards.
Birth rate should boom this year. Shocked. Who would have thought except for everyone with common sense. Well that an we were supposed to avoid sharing bodily fluids.
