“The United States is closely following the case against former President Poroshenko,” the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv wrote on Twitter when charges were announced last year. “Crucial that process and outcome be based on the rule of law, not politics.” “Any sensible and patriotic Ukrainian president would end up like this,” said former Defense Minister Andriy Zagorodnyuk.
