Britain said on Tuesday it wanted greater flexibility to return illegal immigrants back to France after a surge in the number of people embarking on the perilous journey across the English Channel in the hope of a better life.

Hundreds of people, including some children, have been caught crossing to southern England from makeshift camps in northern France since Thursday - many navigating one of the world’s busiest shipping routes in overloaded rubber dinghies.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said he wants to stop the illegal crossings and has dispatched Immigration Minister Chris Philp to Paris for talks with the French government. Britain says the EU’s so-called Dublin Regulation which currently governs the return of illegal immigrants is too inflexible and has very tight timeframes. Junior health minister Edward Argar said Johnson wanted more flexibility.“What he’s looking at, quite rightly, is greater flexibility... in returning people who have come here illegally... and need to be returned back to France,” Argar told Sky News.

Many of the migrants seeking to reach Britain come from Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and countries in Africa, fleeing poverty, persecution or war. Some stand a chance of being granted asylum, while others, considered illegal economic migrants, are unlikely to be allowed to remain in Britain.

Why not welcome them in the spirit of humanity? Seriously.

So UK becoming overt pirates now?

Are they European? Why not return them to their native country?

A policy of returning illegal immigrants with minimum red tape should be welcomed by all countries as this is a global problem.

It's great that Brexit has solved all the illegal migrant issues for the UK......eh Nigel?....Nigel? ....anyone seen Nigel?.....

Then the ukhomeoffice needs to start doing things differently.

The UK should rather “return” the refugees’ wealth back to their homelands. The Uk has been robbing most of the world of its resources for more 500 years.

It's an unwinnable position. The U.K. can't send them back to France if that's where they left from, but they are illegal in the U.K., but we would be vilified if we didn't save them trying to cross the channel.

As we should. France is lackadaisical at best.

whats the problen to return iillegals back to france? france?

If only they wanted to join together and in uni(s)on come up with a solution to a European problem.
