The Utah Department of Transportation and the National Weather Service issued multiple alerts Tuesday in connection to a cold front that had an impact on the morning commute.
The Utah Department of Transportation was warning of widespread areas of ice that may linger through Tuesday morning. The Wasatch Front had already seen a handful of crashes during the morning commute following plunging overnight temperatures.US-189, Entire RouteUS-40, Silver Creek Junction to West of DuscheneDrivers were feeling the residual effects of overnight and morning snowfall, particularly along Utah's Tech Corridor in Utah County and mountain highway routes like I-80 and I-70.
Temperatures had dropped to below freezing, and drivers were being cautioned by the National Weather Service to expect ice on the roads.Roads were beginning to ice over as the temperatures dropped below freezing ahead of the major morning commute. Forecasters also say gusty winds as high as 30 to 60 mph are possible, especially in mountain areas and on ridgelines. This could result in blowing snow and periodically reduced visibility.
