Kristin Gauthier told NBC News that she and her girlfriend, Jenn Mangan, were traveling to a Zac Brown Band concert in Camden, New Jersey, on Friday when the incident, which was partly captured on video, occurred.
Kristin Gauthier was instructed to leave an Uber after she kissed her girlfriend, Jenn Mangan, on the cheek.Gauthier, 33, said about four minutes into the ride, she leaned over to Mangan, 38, and said, “Let’s have a great night,” before giving her a kiss on the cheek. This act “set the driver off,” according to Gauthier, who said the driver, identified only as Cynthia, instructed the couple to get out of the car right afterward.
“She looked at us in the rearview mirror and told us to get out of the car,” Gauthier explained. “She said ‘I don’t support that; she’s your girlfriend.’”“Are you kicking me out because I’m gay?” Gauthier can be heard asking in the Facebook video, which has since been viewed nearly 27,000 times. The video then shows the driver attempting to smack Gauthier’s phone out of her hand and telling her that as a driver, she has the right to cancel any ride she wants.
“What is wrong with you?” Gauthier asked the driver. “This is an Uber ride. I’m paying you for a service.”
MalcolmNance How do ppl working in public service not know that they will encounter sectors of the population they don't like/agree w/? I'm OK w/ the ignorance, just give me a heads up. Where a t-shirt - put a sign in your window. If you don't want my $, fine, let's just skip the BS, OK?
MalcolmNance Freedom to practice your relgion doesn't mean force yours on someone else or discriminate.
Good
MalcolmNance lyft you should ban this driver as well.
MalcolmNance What if this Uber driver had “sincere religious objections”? Didn’t SCOTUS ridiculously rule that such blatant discrimination would be ok?
The whole Uber mess needs to be cleaned up before more harm comes
MalcolmNance They should let him drive again under 1 condition.....
Does the AH still works for Uber?
The Driver didn't have to drive them. It's her business and she has a religious liberty that protects her from violating her conscious. The drivers don't sign anything with Uber saying they have to transport everybody, regardless of their behavior in the vehicle.
Choosing Uber drivers should be based on social criteria for the day, proportional to different culture and religions. If we do not want to see such acts of violence and racism.
Reveal your identity as children of GOD He is kind to ALL By bringing the sun to warm & rain to refresh Whether a person does what is Good Or a person does what is Evil What reward do you deserve If you only Love the Lovable Even the ungodly do that 🔸JesusChrist Matt 5:45
THEY SAY KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD
They were probably doing some disgusting gay stuff in his car, otherwise how did he know they were gay.. dah!! He has rights too, uber is just gay too at the end of the day..
Let's put our hands together for the driver..
As an Uber driver that understands pay and benefits for us can improve, I agree with Uber’s decision to ban this driver. I am an atheist and one night I picked three people that transformed my car into a moving church, and i did not kick them out I even 5-starred them.
Good grief!
Those are are called consequences. Now you have more time to be a bigot.
Drivers have rights too. The couples might have been practising gayism in his car, who know eh?
I'm seeing many people (including my neighbour who's white cisgender) afraid to speak against the driver because they don't want to get called racists. If they do something wrong, there's nothing racist in pointing it out, even if they are fat, black and ugly like this driver.
But muh Christian Privilege! I'm so persecuted! Christian ReligionRuinsEverything
But Uber tolerates exploiting the drivers , paying them less than living wages.
