Prime-time viewership for NBC's broadcast of the Summer Olympics from Tokyo picked up some steam in the first two nights of competition, compared with a lackluster audience for Friday's opening ceremony, preliminary ratings data showed

But the size of NBC's audience on Saturday and Sunday nights, including broadcast television and streaming, was off substantially from comparable totals five years ago during the first two nights of competition at the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro.

NBC said those results marked the first time since the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, that the network's prime-time Summer Games delivered successive viewership increases from the opening ceremony through the first two nights of competition.Total NBC viewership of the opening ceremonies - 12.3 million in prime time plus an estimated 5 million who watched on television and over the internet hours earlier in real-time - marked the smallest U.S.

Viewership for big-event broadcasts has been trending downward in recent years among live sports and awards shows.

'Choking is nothing to celebrate. It’s perfectly human, and there’s no need to condemn and ridicule her. But who wants to watch an Olympics broadcast where the announcers gaslight you into believing choking is an act of bravery? GOATs don’t choke'

Pretty stupid comparison given that Rio is +1hr and Tokyo +13hrs from East coast time. Not many will watch an opening ceremony at 6am on a weekday Yeeeeup didn’t watch it. Think again...

When I was a child I learned that other people were more important than me. My parents didn't tell me this with words, but by example. At the surfing competition, an approaching typhoon made events more dramatic — both in person, and on camera. The storm was a major win for surfing as Japan’s Tsurigasaki Beach is not generally known for powerful waves. TokyoOlympics

Tokyo Olympics: How Far Will NBC’s TV Ratings Fall? The Tokyo Games will almost surely bring NBC and its sibling cable networks their biggest primetime audiences in months. They’ll probably also fall well short of previous Games. How can both statem… NBC's TV coverage have always been mediocre, as they don't showcase the majority of the sports. The streaming live coverage is far better for me. The smell about the Olympics is greed, I’ll pass Plus the fact that it's boring due to Covid eliminating crowds, and athletes being eliminated due to infection.
