The federal government is moving forward with a plan to let teenagers drive big rigs from state to state in a test program.

After more than 5 million people signed an online petition, the governor of Colorado has reduced the 110-year sentence for truck driver Rogel Aguilera-Mederos to just 10 years.

The FMCSA must reach out to carriers with excellent safety records to take part in the program, according to the Transportation Department. The test is part of a broader set of measures from the Biden administration to deal with the trucker shortage and improve working conditions for truck drivers. "This program creates a rigorous safety training program, requiring an additional 400 hours of advanced safety training, in which participants are evaluated against specific performance benchmarks," Geale said. The program will ensure that the industry has enough drivers to meet growing freight demands, he said.

Oh shit. Bad idea.

Bad idea. They can barely drive.

Giving a person with a non fully developed frontal lobe the authorization to operate a 35,000lbs $200,000 truck and potentially millions in cargo. This is something peet b probably conjured up.

Can see that phrase, infamous with anything associated with gov't, being used plenty with this one - SNAFU...

Oh, god. What a mistake.

greatest country on earth. dont me

Oh yeah , what could go wrong?

Maybe don’t fire all the existing drivers because of a worthless mandate. vander_god

U.S. to let teens drive big rigs in test program to help ease supply chain shortageCurrently, truckers who cross state lines must be at least 21 years old, but an apprenticeship program to ease supply chain backlogs would drop that age to 18. That would be a disaster the trucker's now with low expirience are killing us and dint understand the rules/laws of the road. A study already proved there is no shortage of drivers but a shortage of quality compensation for drivers who own their rigs.look it up That’s a terrible idea They’re already driving to dangerously please don’t 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
