Black men’s life expectancy hit 67.7 years, the lowest point since 1998.

Life expectancy in the United States plunged disproportionately from 2018 to 2020 relative to other rich countries due in large part to COVID-19 deaths, according to a new study — with people of color hit especially hard.

“Long before COVID-19, the U.S. was at a disadvantage relative to other high income nations in terms of health and survival,” the authors wrote. “The conditions that produced a U.S. health disadvantage before the arrival of COVID-19 are still in place, but the predominant cause for this large decline was the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Meanwhile, the large drop in Hispanic life expectancy meant that Hispanic people’s long-running “advantage” in life expectancy nearly evaporated. “A longstanding and widening U.S. health disadvantage, high death rates in 2020, and continued inequitable effects on racial and ethnic minority groups are likely the products of longstanding policy choices and systemic racism,” they said.

To be sure, some people — including Alicia Munnell in a column for MarketWatch — have suggested sharp declines in U.S. life expectancy due to the pandemic could represent a temporary “one-shot event” rather than a long-term trend.

Prohibition kills. The drugs that people want are much more safe than the only drugs they have available to them under prohibition. DRUG ADDICTION has long been overlooked in the homeless population. Oddly, the majority of the homeless people we encounter on the streets of sunny California are not Black, Brown, Yellow or Red…they’re White. Our tax laden system is failing Us all. The Blame Game! In syndication longer than Jeopardy! Fix yourself people. No one cares about you. 'Society' isn't real. It's just a convenient excuse for people who have accepted they are lazy or unlucky.
