U.S. employers posted a record number of available jobs in March, illustrating starkly the desperation of businesses seeking to find new workers as the economy expands

Evidence mounts that some employers can’t find workers because they’re jerks.

The enormous number of openings probably will add fuel to a political dispute about whether the extra $300 in weekly federal unemployment aid, on top of a state payment that averages about $320, is discouraging those out of work from seeking new jobs. Many Republicans in Congress have argued that it is, and several states have threatened to cut off the $300 payments, withPresidentBiden, who included the extra money in his $1.9-trillion rescue package approved in March, disputed that the $300 supplemental payment is to blame Monday. But he also urged the Labor Department to work with states on renewing requirements that those receiving aid must search for jobs and take a position if offered.

“Anyone collecting unemployment who is offered a suitable job must take the job or lose their unemployment benefits,” Biden said. Many people out of work are also reluctant to take jobs in service industries that require contact with the public for fear of contracting COVID-19. And many women aren’t searching for jobs because they haven’t found child care for children who are still at home taking online classes for at least part of the week.

*wage, benefits, and treating people like they're human shortage

Biggest labor movement in real time. In this supply and demand, workers will have a short lived leverage. May as well make the best of it.

Stop calling it a labor shortage!!!

So improve wages and benefits then. Isn’t that how capitalism is supposed to work?

I guess they will have to compete for workers. Free market, right?

its not labor shortage, you really think people gonna work for 10 bucks an hours?

to work is the past, benefits the present BTC the future

So did Trump build an economy that was able to weather a pandemic? Or is the economy on a sugar high from low interest rates and massive government spending? Raise interest rates and find out...

I’ve been applying. No one will hire.

I have been on a paid vacation since last March. I will continue to milk it until July

It's not a labor shortage it's a wage shortage.

Job openings leaped above 8 million in March, a new record high'Labor supply appears to be tighter than the unemployment rate suggests, likely reflecting the impact of unusually generous unemployment benefits and lingering virus-related impediments to working,” said one analyst. When everyone gets back to work the greedy Corporations will cut our hrs, no benefits & no vacation pay. We all remember how y'all roll! 20 hrs/week 4-5 days a week. I'd rather work a 12 & 8 hr shift bc I'll need time for a 2nd job. They straight sabotage that possibility. So answer this why when ever the job numbers are bad there are only photos of the hospitality business ? Im sure all other industries are the bad off also Unpopular but why not cut benefits and bring minimum wage up to 12-15 an hour?
