The U.S. economy created a record 4.8 million jobs in June, the most since the government started keeping records in 1939

Record spikes in new coronavirus infections in large parts of the country, including Arizona and the highly-populated states of California, Florida and Texas, have forced several jurisdictions to scale back or pause reopenings, and send some workers back home.

Economists polled by Reuters had forecast payrolls would increase by 3 million jobs in June. Still, employment is 14.7 million jobs below its pre-pandemic level. The jobs recouped are for workers who were temporarily unemployed. Hiring last month was boosted by the typically low-paying leisure and hospitality industry, which brought back 2.1 million jobs, accounting for about two-fifths of the rise in payrolls.

“These workers will likely struggle to regain employment in an economy facing suppressed demand,” said Beth Akers, senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute. That has triggered a second wave of layoffs, keeping weekly new applications for unemployment benefits extraordinarily high.

Lies, damned lies and statistics.

But now everything is shutting down again. Wonder how many jobs were lost over the last 2 weeks...

10 million more jobs needed to negate the number of jobs lost during the pandemic.

Mhm. Back in June. Before the surge in cases and roll backs. Chickens aren't hatched yet. But Trump is counting them.

How does that square with the 40 million we lost?

So that makes it ~16million jobs lost

Whoever posted this good news will probably be fired

Hmm.. economy didn’t create these jobs, people went back to work, in a lull between low infection numbers + today’s explosive level. 45 mil were unemployed. It’s good people went back to work, 30 days ago. It’s July 2nd places are closing in droves, others are going bankrupt

Yeah ok. Is it a hoax

Please correct your Headline: 'The U.S. economy added back 4.8 million jobs likely lost due to Covid-19 shutdowns.'

This is utterly misleading! What the heck is happening at Reuters?!

Fake news, not newly created jobs.

The reopening is failing. These numbers can’t be true.

Lol created

40 million to go.

These are NOT created jobs. These are people returning to work! There is a difference

created? they were people returning to work and may soon have to pause it.

90% des jobs en US n'ont pas ce statut en EU ?

And the U.S. lost a record number of Americans due to Covid 19 because the Republicans kept their heads up president pine-sol's ass and did... NOTHING to help us.

Correction! 4.8 million jobs that were lost between Mar-May, were refilled! Still down 40 Million jobs for the year!

20% unemployment.

There’s a quantum leap between creating new jobs and people being forced to return to work to jobs the already held, at the risk of their lives and those with whom they come into contact. Lipstick on a dead pig would be a better headline.

Context matters.

And people think Biden and his antifa loving friends will win 😂

Misleading headline. Rehiring is the right word.

oh for christ's sakes...do you guys go home and scrub yourselves with SOS pads after your shift? I'm embarrassed for you(as I'm sure your parents are too)

I call BS!

People going back to their jobs is not job creation. Did trumpy hack your account

Suspicious

Lies. People regain their old job. Liar.

is this some kind off a joke?

There is no job creation, people just returned to work after 2 month hiatus..who wrote this article?

You know that's not really accurate, right?

Creation implies they're new jobs. They're not. They're people returning to work. It's still good news, but accuracy is important.

suuuuuuure they did.

Is this a serious tweet?

I know this is a lie🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The U.S has not controlled the covid yet why?

Most cases Most deaths New records

Misleading. The US didn't create any jobs.
