October 24, 2020 -- The United States has passed another grim benchmark in the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since the pandemic began, almost 8.5 million coronavirus cases have been reported in the United States, with nearly 225,000 coronavirus-related deaths, Johns Hopkins says.The daily average for new coronavirus cases measured across seven days has been rising since mid-September. It’s now 63,268. Health experts have predicted a surge would occur as fall and winter hit the United States and more people stay inside. Students returning to campus and states lifting restrictions are also thought to have fueled the increases in cases.
Should write that for every death, there is 100 infection cases. Easy. 300,000 deaths in USA mean 30,000,000 infections.
More testing = More cases. Measuring hospitalizations vs. deaths is more accurate.
More tests, more cases. Most of the positive tests are people who aren’t sick and are only being tested as a condition of returning to work or school or simply because they’ve been scared to death and have a cough.
I saw someone recently applauding the relaxation of restrictions, the sight of packed resturants, and a 'return to normalcy.' It's going to be a bleak winter for a lot of families if this continues.
