If a drone is detected by air defenses, then the new Tiam 1400 drone self-defense system can still protect it. This is another electronic device, one with with “intelligent jamming” capability to identify and neutralise a specific threat homing in on it. Another development was a laser detector, which warns a drone of laser-based defence systems, both those that are used to guide missiles and alsoto shoot down drones. If a drone detects the laser, it can carry out evasive maneuvers to get out of the beam which normally requires a few seconds to cause damage.
Perhaps most significant though was an artificial intelligence-driven control system known as Mass Flight. This is a networked control system with secure communications linking a"leader" drone with up to nine"followers" so they can co-ordinate their actions. It can carry out a pre-programmed mission to attack specific ground targets or handle missions on its own, identifying and engaging targets.
