President Donald Trump on Tuesday planned to host Russia's foreign minister at the White House, two years after a similar meeting with the minister and Russia's ambassador to the United States ignited a firestorm.

When president Trump last met with Lavrov at the White House, in May 2017, he divulged intelligence information Israel had shared with the United States. Russia's ambassador to the United States at the time, Sergey Kislyak, also attended the meeting. The 2017 meeting also came one day after Trump fired then-FBI Director James Comey, which prompted calls for a special counsel to investigate Russian interference into the 2016 election and possible collusion with Trump's campaign.

Ahead of Tuesday's meeting, Trump signaled frustration with the FBI director he had selected to replace Comey, Christopher Wray, after Wray in an interview with ABC News endorsed the findings in a report by the Department of Justice's inspector general that found the origins of the FBI's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election were proper.

— Donald J. Trump December 10, 2019 When he chose Wray to lead the FBI in 2017, Trump praised him as"a man of impeccable credentials."

Watchdog seen rejecting Trump claims on Russia probe and find that flawed investigation was validThe Justice Department’s internal watchdog will release a highly anticipated report Monday that is expected to reject President Donald Trump’s claims that the Russia investigation was illegitimate and tainted by political bias from FBI leaders. Sure and the Nads can fly Correct your headline, it wasn’t a flawed investigation so stating that gives it credit. Let me guess: the Trump & co. spin is that this completely 'exonerates'.
