FILE - In this Monday, Oct. 23, 2017 file photo, President Donald Trump speaks during a joint statement with Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in the Rose Garden of the White House in Washington. Former President Donald Trump plans to affirm his commitment to the Republican Party — and raise the possibility that someone else will be the GOP's next presidential nominee — in a closed-door speech to donors Saturday night, April 10, 2021.
Trump veered sharply from prepared remarks Saturday night and instead slammed Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., as a “stone-cold loser” and mocked McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, who was Trump’s transportation secretary. Ahead of his latest attack on fellow Republicans, Trump’s team reported that his remarks were intended to reinforce his continued leadership role in Republican affairs, a sharp break from past presidents.
“The former president is using the same language that he knows provoked violence on Jan 6. As a party, we need to be focused on the future, we need to be focused on embracing the Constitution, not embracing insurrection,” Cheney told CBS’ “Face the Nation.” Trump has accumulated a total of roughly $85 million so far, a small fortune that rivals the RNC’s bank account. He has teased the prospect of another presidential run in 2024, but has also positioned himself to play the role of kingmaker for Republicans who may run if he does not.
Dear AP. Just stop, he’s gone, he’s not really news anymore - stop milking.
Why is this out? Sunday is not trash day.
'Everyone BUT ME is terrible. Follow me to a great future!' Sooooo trustworthy
well we’re all even then! everyone is disappointed in trump! trump is big on blaming others! never took of accountability, on pandemic, 400,000 died! just so long as he got re-elected! trump is for trump! trump is the virus!
How emphatically can we say 'meh'?
If republicans want to have any success, they need to run, not walk away from Trump. He is toxic to our nation!
There he goes again sending his rotten voters after Mitch and Mike.
And the majority of the nation is 'disappointed' with Trumpy the failed President.
Stop giving this man free press.
Really? Tell us what you really think. Prepared remarks are written by others - who are also a bit addled and beyond belief. The hate is codified by the writers. The outpouring of vile malfeasance is au naturale for the speaker.
The continuing tension between Trump and establishment-minded Republican leaders comes as GOP officials are trying to play down an internal feud over his role in the party, his commitment to Republican fundraising and his plans for the 2024 elections.
