The administration is trying to signal that African countries can look to the U.S. for coronavirus support instead of China, which is facing its own backlash in the continent

the U.S. is pushing the two countries “to the brink of a new Cold War,” Africa is poised to become a prime spot for proxy battles for influence and capital.

“The Chinese Communist Party is doing this first and foremost for the Chinese Communist Party,” said a senior State Department official. “When there is an emergency, whether it is Ebola or Covid, the United States is there. Not only did we not set fire to the village but we’re bringing the most buckets of water.”

To the extent Trump has talked about the continent, it has often been about fighting terrorism on the continent or imposing limits on immigration from African countries to the U.S. Trump has also repeatedly proposed deep cuts to foreign aid funding that would affect funding that goes to projects in Africa. Congress has largely rejected these proposed cuts, however, and the U.S. remains a leading source of foreign aid for African countries.

Trump considers retaliation against China over security law as Hong Kong arrests hundreds of protesters'There's a whole menu of potential things that he [Trump] could do,' U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said while appearing on the Fox Business Network. 'And I'm sure they're working right now on how to refine the thinking and come up with something that's an appropriate response.' Foreign policy is a series of linkages. None of Trump's foreign policy initiatives have panned out, and he's got a nincompoop in Pompeo as sec of state. This is the result. Should read “trump considers a distraction to avoid dealing with over 100k deaths of Americans & abysmal approval ratings”. All he do is tweet and lie
