WASHINGTON—The Trump administration announced an overhaul of the H-1B visa program for high-skilled foreign workers that will require employers to pay H-1B workers significantly higher wages, narrow the types of degrees that could qualify an applicant, and shorten the length of visas for certain contract workers.
The changes, introduced by the Departments of Labor and Homeland Security on Tuesday, will likely make it tougher to qualify for one of the coveted visas.

Technically this was unnecessary because the current rules say that H1B's should get the 'prevailing wage'. However this rule was routinely and flagrantly violated. By enforcing this rule there is no advantage to using an H1B over a USC. It will be an equal playing field. Best.

H1B has been abused no doubt but to pivot to other side is equally crazy. A cascading effect to student F1 will happen as no one will pay a fresher at 45 percentile. This in turn will create a firestorm of outsourcing as American companies pivot to “no h1b”.

I have worked on physician H1-B visas, and one of the requirements is that you must pay the applicant market rate. Is this a suggestion that we pay an H1-B MORE than market?
