last week, riders held up their cellphones and pointed them in the direction of the sexual assault instead of calling 911, authorities said Monday.
A 35-year-old suspect, Fiston Ngoy, was arrested on rape and assault charges. Ngoy, who listed his last address as a homeless shelter, remains in custody on $180,000 bail. It's not clear if he has obtained an attorney or public defender. The attack wasn't reported until a transportation authority employee saw what was happening. Officials said at the news conference that officers responded within three minutes of the employee's report.
Can’t believe 🥲
The victim might recover through therapy, but society is obviously beyond recovery from the lack of empathy, which seems to be another pandemic we have been experiencing for a long time and COVID simply came to reveal
City of Brotherly Love? My ass..truly reprehensible.
They should be considered guilty too. She better take the morning after pills. Oh wait she isn't in TX. Apparently TX governor didn't catch that rapist.
They need to be held accountable for not helping
Their phones pinged. SVU
My uncle pulled a rapist off a women once and held him down until the cops showed up. I guess chivalry and bravery have died with this generation.
This would not happen in Texas, as alot of Texans are licensed to carry and would step in to protect this person from any harm. This is absolutely inexcusable for these bystanders to sit there a watch this poor lady being attacked and raped, and to video it. Unbelievable!!
That’s what our society has become.
could we call them humans
It is pathetic.
That woman’s life was forever altered and they recorded it for what purpose? What did they do/say when the attack was over? This behavior happens often in 3rd world countries, is that what we’ve become?
Disgusting
Wow. That’s just sick!
This is so sad that it's the world we live in now
Enraged by this story. Also enraged by statement “not sure whether he has an attorney or a public defender.” ALL public defenders are attorneys - usually the most qualified and experienced criminal defense lawyers.
End of days stuff. What has happened to society and our humanity?
Absofuckinglutely despicable! I cannot fathom anyone not stepping in to help nor just call 911. As someone raised in that tri-state area, I am sickened. I pray for that woman. 😞
That's liberals for you.
In the city of brotherly love no less.
I have no faith in mankind! The degradation of our society is rampant! It all seems fun now but the end game will be devastating! WAKE UP PEOPLE!!
What to expect when everyone involved is a Democrat
sickening the 🌎 we live in! pathetic and disgraceful GodBless
Stories like this make me hate humans so much.
Who were these people on the Train! They just watch n do nothing! What a shame!
While this is tragic, you have to understand, they throw snowballs at Santa in Philly!
People don't have the right mentality nowadays to intervene...
Those who videoed should be charged with aiding & abetting
The passengers should be held accountable and charged with aiding a crime. Maybe then ppl will put the phones down and act like humans.
They held their cell phones instead of taking action, to me they are COWARDS.
ReaderCatMe What’s wrong with people?
How sick can people be? This is so sick
Sad state of affairs. Total breakdown of society.
This is sick. You don’t have to bring attention to yourself to call the police
This is the culture Facebook Google Twitter and Apple have created.
This is horrific. A modern day Kitty Genovese
What is wrong with those people?
What is f-/:;ing wrong with people today?
Police: How dare you not risk your life to help another person! Also police: We're just as likely to kill you as help you by 'stomping your head', kneeling on your neck or just recklessly shooting everything moving in sight because they're so scared for their life.
What has happened to us as a people. No one tried to stop this maniac or call 911. How can they live with themselves?
Well what do you expect? The country has made surveillance a money making tool, cops won’t get there , it’s a moving train the signals probably won’t even connect. Why don’t you collect footage and identify the rapist b4 you crucified the public… do your job
maggieNYT Remember Kitty Genovese. Look it up.
'Genovese syndrome' in 2021
Everyone is ignoring the main issue. There is a culture of “don’t snitch” that is prevalent over being a good person.
Disgusting & disgraceful, but not a surprise during these times where everyone is living in a fantasy world and could care less about others.
If you are from Philadelphia you should be ashamed and embarrassed.
Those who did should be charged and if they shared it, more charges, they should set as a example to show that this has to stop, help someone first that taking out your stupid phone and getting happy cause you getting a video. This is bulls*** and people have become bulls***
maggieNYT Pointed in the direction? That's a weird way of saying 'filmed'.
I hope the police seized their devices to gather the evidence instead of the victims phone.
If people's instinct is to film crime (safe) instead of intervening (dangerous), then we should give phones a button that lets people stream video to the police in real time.
If you can video, you can call 911. Those people should be considered accessories.
Black Mirror is right
Some one tell Greta the planet is fine, the problem is the humans… 🥳
What’s wrong with people?😡
An employee had already called 911. Stop with the Lord of the Flies narrative. It was a fictional story.
maggieNYT Wtf
This is a hypothesis, but is it possible that this rape case was a shoot? I'm afraid of American society. Amen
At least we have the video evidence...
Seems bout right for living in the world of black mirror....
Sickening
