The amount of energy released from the recent blast is comparable to other major eruptions throughout Earth's history.

The recent volcanic eruption in Tonga is the biggest on Earth in approximately 30 years and its energy output is comparable to that of Mount St. Helens in 1980.

Prior to the Tongan blast, the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991 is the closest equivalent in terms of strength of eruption.."The numbers are in the family of Mount St. Helens, but this is a different type of eruption." An undersea volcano had been erupting in the South Pacific near Tonga. As Garvin put it,"We saw the emergence of this new type of island" near Hunga Tonga and Hunga Ha'apai.

Webb telescope reaches its final destination far from EarthThe ambitious observatory has arrived at its home — near a gravitationally special spot called L2 — for a premier view of the Universe. It should have cameras. We should be able to watch it during its journey. Why are there no cameras? L2 is unstable. We need this now more than ever. There is so much we don't know and it's arrogant to think we are anywhere close.

NASA’s Newest Spinoff Tech Comes Back to EarthWhile the space agency didn't actually develop Tang, its R&D includes everything from robot gloves to vertical farming—with commercial benefits back home. Amen 1200 is such a tiny number of patents for an org like NASA to hold after decades of astronomical (sorry !) investment … a failure on so many fronts. As a comparison IBM were awarded 9130 in 2020 alone. The innovation premium of space travel is a complete fallacy !
