.Burberry’s Riccardo Tisci collaborated with the artist Anne Imhof on his spring 2021 show video—watch how it came together here on today's episode of GoodMorningVogue

is in London, where the shows are underway. In fact, the U.K.’s newly implemented COVID-19 restrictions have made even the coziest of presentations almost impossible this season. Designers are presenting their new clothes in one-on-one atelier appointments or via Zoom calls.

Not Burberry, though. The Riccardo Tisci–helmed brand staged a massive show in the middle of a forest on the eve of London Fashion Week last Thursday. “The story behind this show,” Tisci told, “came from whatever happened in the last seven months in the world. We cannot stop. We thought: Let’s be creative, and let’s not lose the emotion, the romanticism of this beautiful storytelling.”

The project, designed to showcase Tisci’s spring 2021 “love story between a mermaid and a shark,” was a collaboration with the artist Anne Imhof. “Anne’s work is all about the element of youth,” Tisci said. That mutual preoccupation is not the only way these two creatives intersect. Together, they landed on the concept of a show in the round, a setup Tisci has used in the past.

“I very much envisioned changing the idea of the models walking the show,” Imhof explained. “The models would become the audience in some way. If I would make a show, I would also make a show for them. So I combined the circle with a stage to have both of these ways of looking at something.” “People, when they’re walking in a ring, are generating very good energy,” added Tisci, whose spring lineup combines elements of the animal world with mythology and references to lighthouses. “Of course I miss the adrenaline of a show, but today everybody has a phone, everybody can watch. It’s a quite democratic way to show to the world and to include people.”, and come back this Wednesday and Friday for more London Fashion Week videos.
