Time 100: Anthony Fauci, Donald Trump, Megan Thee Stallion, Michael B. Jordan make list for 2020

The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and leading figure on the Trump administration's White House Coronavirus Task Force was named one of the Time 100. The annual list is made up of 100 of the year’s most influential leaders, artists, icons, titans and pioneers and was revealed Tuesday night.praised Fauci, writing for Time that the doctor “doesn’t sugarcoat his words and refuses to be pressured by politicians.

Fauci has frequently butted heads with the president over the global pandemic and the government’s messaging about COVID-19. Recently, the nation's leading infectious disease expert, contradicting the president’s assertions that things will soon return to normal. “If you're talking about getting back to a degree of normality which resembles where we were prior to COVID, it's going to be well into 2021, maybe even towards the end of 2021," Fauci said.

President Trump also made the list, though there’s less praise in his inclusion than in Fauci’s. Time's senior White House correspondent Brian Bennett writes, “ downplayed the severity of COVID-19 early on, refused for months to wear a mask and pressured government scientists to change their recommendations, as the virus spread to eventually kill more than 200,000 Americans.

Former vice president and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris, also made the list.
