That will mean virtual reality concerts for those who own the Oculus Quest headsets, and 2D video within Tidal’s service, with simultaneous access to the live performances on each platform.
Tidal is doubling down on live streams and concerts for its users, announcing Wednesday that it has partnered with Facebook’s virtual reality platform Oculus on a series of"immersive concerts," which will be rolled out later this year. That will mean virtual reality concerts for those who own the Oculus Quest headsets, and 2D video within Tidal’s service, with simultaneous access to the live performances on each platform.
With the coronavirus pandemic having essentially shifted the entire live touring business into the digital realm, canceling all in-person concerts and shows with artists experimenting with variations on live-streamed shows and pre-recorded performances for fans, the partnership is intended to fill the gap for live music fans with"reimagined" live experiences.
“At a time when livestreamed performances are seen as the new norm, Tidal’s partnership with Oculus provides music lovers an elevated concert experience with more interaction and dimension than past livestreams," Tidal COOsaid in a statement."Oculus is revolutionizing the live music experience and matched with TIDAL’s HiFi audio quality, members will be able to remember what it feels like to stand in a large crowd at a concert venue.
