Hundreds form 'lines of solidarity' with protesters demonstrating against election they say was rigged to extend the rule of the Belarus' authoritarian leader.

Catch up on the developing stories making headlines.MINSK, Belarus -- Thousands of people were back on the streets of Belarus’ capital on Thursday to keep protesting against a vote that extended the 26-year rule of the country’s authoritarian leader, and against a brutal crackdown on peaceful demonstrations.

“Belarusians have seen the villainous face of this government. I argued with my husband and voted for Lukashenko. And this is what I got in the end — I can't find my relatives in prisons,” said Valentina Chailytko, 49, whose husband and son were detained during protests on Sunday. The brutality and scope of the police crackdown was remarkable even for Lukashenko’s iron-fisted rule. He has won the nickname of “Europe’s last dictator" in the West for his relentless suppression of dissent.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the election in Belarus wasn't free or fair and urged the government to refrain from violence against peaceful protesters.

You'd think an authoritarian leader would be more...authoritarian towards protesters.

When liberals lose they always say the election was rigged.

Thousands protest Belarus' 'rigged' electionThousands of protesters rallied in Belarus’ capital and other cities for a fourth night straight, decrying an election they say was rigged to extend the 26-year rule of President Lukashenko. Did they use mail in ballots like the Democrats want too ? Coming soon, to a country near you ... This is what citizens who actually care about democracy and the future of their country do when elections are rigged and stolen. The fact that Americans are too lazy and complacent to have done the same in the last 3.5 years is a profound and crippling embarrassment.
