Eliott Jones, CEO and co-founder of Biospectal said the traditional, inflatable blood pressure cuff hadn’t changed that much since its inception.
With OptiBP, the company says users can take their blood pressure in 20 seconds using your smartphone and the compatible app and then easily share your blood pressure history with your doctor. OptiBP is in a closed beta until the end of 2020 and will be available to consumers on iOS and Android in 2021.
Jones believes that integrating medical-grade blood pressure monitoring in a device as ubiquitous as the smartphone is a breakthrough and dramatic improvement in enabling tracking and ongoing blood pressure management. Dr. Patrick Schoettker, M.D., Chief Medical Officer and co-founder of Biospectal adds that measuring blood pressure in the patients’ natural environment eliminates the “white coat syndrome” which causes patients’ blood pressure to elevate due to stress and anxiety at the doctor’s office.
