It was clean and well kept when we made it Malcolm X park. Good music, good vibes. My daughter and her friends would wade in the water in the early eighties. She was 3 or 4. Before she was born my sister and I would take beautiful 35mm pictures there. This is more than sad.

_NatParkService went just yesterday. Totally overgrown. Trash everywhere. What has happened. Please tend to this magnificent park immediately

DCDPR went to the park today. Overgrown. Trash everywhere. Such a lovely park that has gone into disrepair

DC isn't even mowing anywhere. Stop exaggerating.

EleanorNorton oversees DC federal land. Good luck! Trying 4 yrs to get Eleanor fix up Anacostia Park playground & Shepherd Park woods in SE. But Ward 1 is larger voting block compared to Ward 8; thus, she'll likely respond.

When was this joint grand? All I can remember is homeless people, drugs and murders

When I lived nearby we used to play 'count the condoms' yatzee. When you win, you really lose.

The Woodley Park playground is also under NPS jurisdiction and undermaintaned. There is no paved pathway that goes to the playground. I barely see people use it.

Now that's the DC I remember as a kid.

C'MON!

I used to go there to take pictures.

It would be nice to see NatlParkService do what it's supposed to.

My mom used to tell me about walking through Meridian Hill Park after getting off work at midnight as a long distance operator for C&P Telephone in the 40s after WWII. I remember seeing it in disrepair as a kid in the 60s and 70s. It has such potential….beautiful place.

Oh man

Looks like it did in the 2000’s again tgat didn’t last long

Damn.

I’ve been frustrated by the restoration work on the lower level. The entire second half of the park closed for over a year, with little to no progress being made.

What about the George B. McClellan Park at the intersection of Connecticut and Columbia? Pretty soon the weeds are going to completely hide the statue that’s there.

How do other capitals like Paris, Lisbon or London do it?

Hmmm if only there was a nice fat $$ Infrastructure law

Smdh

At least there’s green there. I’ve seen it full of trash, needles, and feces.

ddiamond How is it the areas around the new apartment developments (riverfront, etc) get million$ but this beautiful park is totally neglected and run down. Who is responsible for maintaining this park?

It's a shame that the person who wrote it doesn't seem to be interested in helping to improve the park.

Totally agree! Would be a destination if in its former grandeur! Sad.

So disappointing! Can’t understand why our city parks are not groomed and maintained.

I don’t understand complaining about something that is very clearly currently being worked on and improved. It is my understanding that it is a priority for the NPS to fully refurbish the park, including fixing the fountains. How long that will take is the real question.

MayorBowser is too busy trying to hire more police to pay attention to quality of life issues for District residents.

DC is kind of a mess all over the city right now 🙁

Seems a bit over the top. When was the last time someone ODed there?

....I hope they restore it soon...that is the prettiest part of the park . .

And the James Buchanan Memorial? In the same shape?

Is it somewhere in Moldova? :D

this is in the part of the park that's being worked on right now... yes it's been slow but the rest of the park is perfectly fine and enjoyed by many!

Oh come on

Looking for Echigo Koshihikari beer'Dear PoPville, I am looking for a specific beer - what would be the best way to find which store in DC might carry it other than simply calling every store to check? The beer in question is Echigo Koshihikari beer in case any readers wish to help me out. I've already checked TotalWine and Drizly Find the distributor that can get it and then any store/restaurant can order it for you. You could ask Sushi Taro or another restaurant that possibly carries it. Hana should absolutely have a liquor license. But for those looking for sake and willing to wait a tiny bit for delivery, I recommend dc_sake. As for beer, not sure... They sell it at Rice Market on 14th. Also can go to H Mart in Northern Virginia
