Meteorologists say the storm in southwestern Kansas was completely 'unforecasted.'

A damaging tornado looms over northern Seward County in Kansas on Wednesday. By Matthew Cappucci Matthew Cappucci Meteorologist, Capital Weather Gang Email Bio Follow July 2 at 1:42 PM On Wednesday, rotating supercell thunderstorms towered 10 miles into the sky in southwestern Kansas. Torrential downpours, hail ranging from in size from golf ball to tennis ball, and even a damaging tornado accompanied the storms. The weirdest part? It wasn’t even supposed to rain.

“This was completely unforecasted,” said Bill Turner, a lead forecaster at the National Weather Service office in Dodge City, Kan. “It’s got to be rare to get something like that.”The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center's midday outlook on Wednesday reveals no predicted chance of severe thunderstorms in southwestern Kansas. The tornado's location is plotted with a star.

However, storms quickly fired about 6 p.m. The southernmost one acquired intense rotation as it moved over northern Seward County in southwestern Kansas, prompting a tornado warning at 7:38 p.m. A tornado touched down at or shortly after 7:34 p.m. — honkey™️ July 2, 2020 Meteorologists were left scratching their heads on how a sunny forecast in an environment apparently lacking a trigger could result in towering clouds and a tornado, but Turner postulates a subtle boundary, marked by a slight temperature change over distance, could have induced just enough convergence near the surface to kick up a storm.

“The thing is, northern Seward County is basically wheat and dirt,” explained Turner. “The only damage was [to] one of those irrigation sprinklers. That’s the only damage report I know of. It takes easily 80 to 90 mph [to move one].”A rotating supercell thunderstorm takes on a “mother ship” appearance as it moves south of Lakin, Kan., on Thursday evening.

90-year-old man comes out as gay in viral Facebook postOne of the first things you’ll notice on 90-year-old Kenneth Felts' Facebook page are his big smile and rainbow hoodie. It’s a new addition to go along with a message for everyone that knows him: “I am free, I am gay and I am out.” why do i care. if i plastered it all over the gay community that i wasnt gay and im happy. how do you think they would take. treat ppl how you want to be treated and for the love of god, stop allowing yourself to be used politically by someone who doesnt care about you I applaud that you are so conditioned to clap for this, you all fail to see that a man chosing to live in the closet for 90 years, only to come out in 2020, is an abject coward.
