The Supreme Court has ruled 6-3 that New York state’s concealed carry law is unconstitutional, an outcome that is expected to make it easier for Americans to carry guns.

The NRA celebrated the new ruling as “a watershed win.”

, 25 states require a permit in order to carry concealed weapons in public. Eight states — including New York — and the District of Columbia have what are known as “may issue” concealed carry laws. These laws give authorities wide discretion to deny concealed carry permits, for instance if someone has not demonstrated a strong need for carrying a concealed weapon in public.

Seventeen states have “shall issue” concealed carry laws, offering authorities little to no discretion to deny permits those who meet basic qualifications.the remaining 25 states allow people to carry concealed weapons in most public spaces without any permit, background check, or safety training.

Supreme Court Conservatives Flex Muscle In Sweeping RulingsSweeping Supreme Court rulings on guns and abortion this past week have sent an unmistakable message. It’s called “be adults and take responsibility for your lives”. That’s the message. The message that they want to force women to give birth against our will, only to have our children murdered in a mass shooting when they go to school. That Constitution just keeps Liberals in tears.

They Called Us ‘Hysterical.’ Now 'Roe' is Dead. Our heavily conservative Supreme Court just ruled against the will of the people on abortion access. Flashing back to when my husband told me it would never get overturned and I was being hysterical. I cannot believe I'm raising daughters here. And you're STILL hysterical if you don't realize all this does is revert the laws to the each state. Get active in your states, you useless harridans, if you care so much.

Eight states — including New York — and the District of Columbia have what are known as “may issue” concealed carry laws. These laws give authorities wide discretion to deny concealed carry permits, for instance if someone has not demonstrated a strong need for carrying a concealed weapon in public. So far, the 2022 cycle is expected to be a good one for Republicans, analysts in both parties say, but the election has been largely about issues other than guns and abortion. Seventeen states have “shall issue” concealed carry laws, offering authorities little to no discretion to deny permits those who meet basic qualifications. Justice Clarence Thomas wrote in the court's majority opinion that the right extended outside the home as well: “Nothing in the Second Amendment’s text draws a home/public distinction with respect to the right to keep and bear arms. the remaining 25 states allow people to carry concealed weapons in most public spaces without any permit, background check, or safety training. Publicly, Trump crowed about the Supreme Court rulings Friday in a triumphant statement released through his super PAC, blasting his usual suspects, including Democrats and the news media. Today’s opinion from the court asserts that New York’s law violates the Constitution “because New York issues public-carry licenses only when an applicant demonstrates a special need for self-defense. They will not know who is legally permitted to carry a weapon if there are more weapons being carried in a concealed fashion in the city of Buffalo, and across the state of New York and other communities across the country.

” Thomas writes that the government cannot justify a gun regulation simply because it “promotes an important interest. It was my great honor to do so!” he said. The court's three liberals who dissented are justices Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.” Rather, Thomas suggests, “The government must demonstrate that the regulation is consistent with the Nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation.” Justice Stephen Breyer wrote the dissenting opinion, which Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan signed onto. “This brings everything back to the states where it has always belonged,” Trump said to Fox News. In it, Breyer devotes a significant amount of space to detailing the rise of gun violence in America, providing a long list of recent mass shootings that have occurred in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Uvalde, Texas, Buffalo, New York, and more. The court made it clear that the state can continue to make people apply for a license to carry a handgun, and can put limitations on who qualifies for a permit and where a weapon can be carried. He argues the court’s decision “severely burdens” states’ efforts to address gun violence, and that its “near-exclusive reliance on history is not only unnecessary, it is deeply impractical.” He was more publicly muted, however, than a range of other Republicans who are seeking the presidency in 2024." "Far too many innocent Americans are losing their lives to gun violence.

” Those mass shootings, particularly the recent shooting at an elementary school in Texas where , have fueled demands for better gun safety regulations in America. While SCOTUS handed down its decision, Congress moved . Some Republicans were faster to call for the laws to go even further. They have yet to detail their plans.
