Keeping it on, thank you very much. Photo: John Lamparski/Getty Images Robin Argenti cannot yet envision a future in which she doesn’t wear a mask. “We don’t know if it is going to ever be over,” the 57-year-old resident of upstate New York said of the pandemic. She’s in poor health, and concerned that with the emergence of new variants and the “millions of people who refuse to get vaccinated,” the country will never actually overcome the coronavirus.

Michael Bizzaro, a Colorado teacher, told me that while he doesn’t particularly enjoy wearing a mask, he’s noticed health benefits beyond not getting COVID-19. “Being a public-school teacher, there are multiple times a year that I get sick,” he said. “Being in the presence of lots of teenagers, I get colds quite often. I’m affected pretty badly by seasonal allergies.

A common thread among these forever maskers is genuine worry about getting other people sick. “The pandemic has opened my eyes and a lot of people’s eyes to how sicknesses get transferred,” McCoy said. It’s almost become a cliché to reiterate, but masks protect other people from you more than they protect you from other people. Rosenblum, too, cited “concern for and about others” as the primary reason he wants to continue wearing a mask.

evepeyser If you need a reason, pick several.

evepeyser hmm..not sure if this is aging well..

evepeyser I’m not going to lose sleep over someone that wants to continue wearing a mask, even if covid is eradicated it’s completely their choice and doesn’t effect me. Now some idiot that wants to ridicule people that wear mask during a pandemic, they adversely effect all of us

evepeyser Do you boo boo but I’m not about the mask life once we’re all relatively safe.

evepeyser I’m one of them. The thought of anonymous aerosol spit finding its way into my mouth and nose grosses me out.

evepeyser I agree with them.

evepeyser COVID-19 Highlighted How Many Americans Do NOT Care about the Health & Safety of others...especially the Anti-Vaxxers, and COVID-19 Deniers (REPUBLICANS). The World Can't Go Thru This Again...NO VACCINE, YOU'RE NOT PERMITTED IN CROWDS!!

evepeyser Flu is also a killer, masks and hand washing can decrease risks of contracting it

evepeyser Yes we always had germophobes. Civic has made them even more whacky

evepeyser I love masks 😷

evepeyser Masks are a stylish way to keep people from talking to me.

evepeyser I feel this. I too plan to stay masked up when in public after we are told me no longer need to be.

evepeyser Great. More people should adopt this attitude.

evepeyser ChrysTejedor I might stay masked up forever so no one ever sees my face again (and because I can't keep from mouthing obscenities at everyone).

cervix_envy evepeyser Insane.

evepeyser Forever Masker Club member👍 😷😷

evepeyser This is pretty much Japan on a daily basis.

evepeyser I’ll take “No Thank You” for 1000 Alex

evepeyser What's the cost? I don't have to wear concealer, blush, or lipstick. No cost. Only cost savings.

evepeyser I’ve discussed this back over the summer with people, but from 2020 till 2025, will be masks needed till things calm down. By 2030, the public can start to truly feel safe, but retail and service workers will need to always wear masks going forward. It’s going to be normal.

evepeyser Yep, sign me up too. Was a case the other in the newspaper of a man who'd had both shots of Pfizer vaccine and still caught Covid 19 and was very extremely ill but survived due to having had those 2 earlier shots.
