Less than two hours after the news of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death — and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s vow to try to replace her with a nominee picked by President Donald Trump — the progressive movement was activated.
In the past few years, Democrats have grown increasingly concerned about the composition of the Supreme Court, an issue that’s long been the province of Republican voters. But the battle over the confirmation of Justice Brett Kavanaugh, along with McConnell’s refusal to hold a vote on President Barack Obama’s nominee, Merrick Garland, in 2016, helped to change that.
The group also said it already has campaign infrastructure in place seeking to oust 12 Senate Republicans, which was originally created in response to the Senate’s impeachment“If the Senate Republicans continue to follow McConnell on this,” said Indivisible press secretary Emily Phelps, “they're going to be the target of the wrath of millions of grieving, pissed-off, motivated volunteers from all 50 states.
The pressure campaigns aren’t limited to Republicans. In a year in which progressives ousted a handful of incumbent House Democrats, a former aide to Sen. Bernie Sanders called for a Democrat to immediately announce that they will launch a 2022 primary challenge against Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. The goal: Make him grind the Senate to a halt in hopes of somehow staving off a confirmation.
Democrats are largely powerless to stop the nomination if Republicans have 50 votes: They can try to put on the brakes, but judicial confirmations run on a separate calendar and McConnell controls the floor. Progressive activists and former Senate aides insist they have leverage to drag it out, though.
Too bad Biden and Obama couldn’t coax Ruth to step down, it’s their fault Trump will fill this seat with someone who follows the Constitution and not make up their own laws. You can also blame Ruth for thinking no one else could fill her seat, as well, as her!
The left's fury is almost as scary as a wet kitten. Republicans are treasonous bastards, and they get away with it because Democrats think whining is the best problem-solving strategy.
Just end hypocrisy on both sides, this is not 2 be missed opportunity on GOP and they should fill the seat. If this is a chance given to Democrats they won’t hesitate at all! Politics is all about power. That’s the reality. As for GOP voters they should consolidate 4 common goal.
yeah? well I'm increasingly concerned that the court has become increasingly politicized! POLITICS has challenged the faith of the people in these institutions. last I checked, Lady Justice wears a blindfold, and SCOTUS building reads-EQUAL JUSTICE UNDER LAW!
Mcconell did so great keeping Kentucky in the low end of a economic disaster.

It's a shame -- tragic shame -- that the High Court can't be made up of people who rule cases based on law & fairness for all Americans, not based on D 'or' R ideals, beliefs. I'd love a pres who strives for that. What we really need is a Supreme Court made up of Independents.

What about the composition of the Senate that votes on SC Justices? And the fact that states 2 Senators per state no matter the population highly skews the voting.
