President Donald Trump has announced a deal with Canada and Mexico that would scrap “major tariffs,” ending a simmering trade dispute that began when the president imposed tariffs on imported steel and aluminum in the name of national security.
While the tariffs helped many U.S. steel and aluminum makers, the retaliatory tariffs hurt other sectors of the U.S. economy, such as agriculture.Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada stayed strong in asking for a full lift of the Trump administration’s tariffs on steel and aluminum. The Canadians and Mexicans did go along with a revamped regional trade deal that was to Trump’s liking. But the administration refused to lift the taxes on the metals imports anyway.
President Donald Trump last year slapped tariffs on imported steel and aluminum from China and a number of other nations, including Canada, invoking a rarely used provision of a 1962 law to claim that the foreign metals posed a threat to U.S. national security. The deal removes a major hurdle to the passage of a new pact to replace the North American Free Trade Agreement.
Good. Maybe he'll undo *all* of his mess to appear like an even bigger hero. Goodness knows that his supporters will lap it all up.
What shall we call this agreement of free trade in North America?
Doesn't he always claim he never settles?
Canada and Mexico for the win.
Yeah! He reached a deal to end the problem he created.
U turn hmmmm what a waste of time and money. Looks like those steel workers aren’t voting for him in 2020🤔
But why? Didn't he just say last week how steel was coming back big time in the US because of his tariffs? If we are doing so great and opening more steel plants and creating so many jobs why does he need to do this?
realDonaldTrump you talk tough about tarrifs at first, then soften your talk later when reality sets in.
abc3340 Another promise kept!!! TRUMP
Hello folks... he put the tariffs in place to pressure both countries to sign a new NAFTA. Guess what they’ve agreed to sign. This is Good News
He gets the job done.
Just jacking that stock market for profit. Can't quit the con.
So what did we accomplish
HA HA HA look at our successful hive! watch what happens when I hit it like a piñata for the honey to drip out for my friends! Oh the bees? Don't worry
Doesn't help now. Farmers have already lost markets and future sales so they can't risk buying new equipment from companies like Deere who relied on those metals.
donnie is getting lessons and an ass-kickin' from China in how to conduct international trade
You big tease!
-Create a problem where none exist -Implement a bad solution that hurts Americans -Make deal that is basically the same as before you stuck your nose in it -Claim victory What an amazing dealmaker!
Dum Dum.. 😏
So, an aid (or Fox News) told him it was costing him votes? Canada gave up nothing. Not sure why Pence going there, as the agreement is already signed.

what happened to the threat to National Security realDonaldTrump
So much winning!! Please stop..no more winning!!!
_Politics More winning! Bigly!
Couldn't have anything to do with steel stock prices now does it? On 2/19/19 United States Steel Corp opens at $23.00 been steadily declining to this morning's opening at $14.65 - that's an 8.35 loss in less than 3 months. GOP not happy. Worse. Business. Man. Ever.
So what changed in new trade agreement
I still won't believe it if trump drops tariffs on softwood lumber, aluminium & steel...he will still find a way to fuck with Canada and stir up more anti-American sentiment in Canadians. Canada will not tolerate anymore trump garbage
Says so today. What will T say tomorrow! Will he *do* anything either day?
So NAFTA is back then?
Wait, how does a matter of “national security” suddenly become not an issue? This guy’s policies blow with the political winds.
The deal was to take off the tariffs that HE imposed. There is no deal.
ALWAYS LATE TO TRY AND FIX,AFTER HE BREAKS !!!😖
'Trade dispute'? hahahaha
neener neener
Can you scrap this also?
And he lost
I don’t know what I’m doing ....
Slowly backing away from failed tariff strategy, huh? Who couldn't guessed he's no great negotiator? Oh yeah, most Americans in the know and aren't naive enough to be conned into buying the bluster.
Trudeau trounces trump again
This just killed US Steel who just recently opened plants to make steel.... Trump made suckers out of US Steel ....Those American plants will close ASAP
NAFTA anyone? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
Aluminum and steel? You mean the things that Deripaska deals?
so Canada and Mexico wins
Are we unsafe now?
And what was accomplished by this ridiculous tariff?
I have never seen such incompetence. He creats a crisis and negotiated the end of the crisis he created without significant changes and he takes a victory lap. 😋😂
It’s called bargaining from a position of strength
Create problemfix problemtake credit'murica
Guarantee, it is a bad deal, probably worse than NAFTA...I will wait for the analysis, but the BOT (Bloated Orange Turd) has not negotiated one good deal in 2 years...not one...all he does is break deals...he is a very stupid man.
abc3340 TRUMP THE IS MAN.
Does this mean the fake national security crisis is gone?! Now do the border emergency! With all these fake crises, hard to see the real ones that are destroying the rule of law and the constitution everyday
Good news to Canada $EWC and Mexico $EWW.
He's courrpt the prices
Oh- did somebody FINALLY get it through that orange cotton candy topped head of his that he is running the United States into the ground financially?
In other words we are back to where it started before the toddler in chief's tantrums
Great 👍
Probably because we just got hit with $60B in tariffs from China
Great to hear
