Surging iPhone sales in the final three months of 2020 pushed Apple ahead of Samsung as the world's biggest smartphone maker, according to new research.

The launch of the 5G iPhone 12 series propelled Apple to the number one position in the fourth quarter, Gartner said in a statement on Monday. The last time Apple was the top smartphone vendor was in the fourth quarter of 2016, according to Gartner's data, which tracks sales to consumers.Apple , which launched its 5G lineup in mid October, sold nearly 80 million smartphones in the final three months of 2020, a 15% increase on the same period the previous year.

"Even as consumers remained cautious in their spending and held off on some discretionary purchases, 5G smartphones and pro-camera features encouraged some end users to purchase new smartphones or upgrade their current smartphones in the quarter," said Anshul Gupta, senior research director at Gartner."The iPhone 12 is a hit," added Canalys analyst Vincent Thielke in last month's report.

And I'll happily stick with my Nokia.

I do not consider it an advantage of this phone, but it is more about the fact that the iPhone has more restrictions and therefore it is more difficult to rob the user

Samsung: Let's introduce a new Tech, AI and machine learning techniques to help people's health so they'll buy our phones.----- New iPhone' Let's put one camera hole extra and charge people $300 more.. People will buy it anyways. Period

Bought one from Iraq 2020...great to use!!

I would never get an Apple Yes I have had Apple products before. Ipod was my last, it was too restrictive so I went back to open source

I can't really bring myself to buy into the Apple ecosystem due to their dismissal of 'right to repair'... I only bought an older iPad because it was in a Black Friday sale. Wouldn't buy a phone or laptop. Apple can f**k off.

Same energy

Hmm a massive dump of sales right at the end. Must be fake sales from dead people. I don't believe it samsung won

modi_rijgar_do Indian government is not giving jobs and Indian media is silent about it plz help..

47 Mandis in Madhya Pradesh recorded no business in Oct while the number was 41 in Sep. Farm produce is being sold at half the MSP. 143 Mandis have recorded a massive drop of between 50% to 60% in business(when the three farm ordinances were put in place). Pagdi_Sambhal_Jatta

Not surprised. I got the Sansung S21 and it's a pile of shit

That’s unfortunate. No one robs people more than Apple. They know too well how to fool or force folks into buying new iPhones. Fucking dirty tricks like slowing down services or getting iPhone users bombarded with the “your storage is full” stuff.

not bad for samsung means selling more screens and chips to apple!

did they trade it for some medium nickels

My 2018 model Samsung Galaxy S9+ is still a powerhouse. Great in all aspects, even battery holds enough juice. Samsung makes really great phones. They are available at reasonable price. The only apple I will buy is the real 🍎

Iphone for dummys lol

More sales = worse phones, iphone is no different from any other brand, every new model brings more issues to buyers!

Samsung has a lot more products, this is not a big deal for them

Wonder if this has anything to do with that update that was all over the news and was so vital to have completed...? 🤔

apple really have a hold on the dumb masses. can fleece them anytime for more money.

So how many of you anti-capitalism cucks are going to boycott Apple now?
