The biggest battle fought by American forces in World War II didn’t involve conquering enemy territory or liberating an occupied country. Instead, 75 years ago this month in the Battle of the Bulge, U.S. troops won a major victory simply by hanging on.
If D-Day was the key offensive battle of the war in Europe, the Battle of the Bulge—known to the Germans as Operation Wacht am Rhein —was the key defensive battle. The Normandy landings tend to occupy a bigger place in our national memory, even though a defeat in either operation would have dealt a decisive blow to the Allied war effort.
The Russian ppl paid a much heavier price that Allies or the Jews.
34,476,700 people participated in the Second World War from USSR.
Freedom of association encompasses both an individual's right to join.. group to take collective action to pursue the interests of its members... White majority in U.S are Germans! While Police Hooligans LGBTI Religious groups are all seen as potential Nazi army units in Europe!
sad that our Vice President doesn't respect their sacrifices enough to wear a mask, esp. since an aide close to him has tested positive.
adamhousley Amazing men!!!😊🇺🇸❤️❤️❤️
The Germans lacked the fuel for the operation to succeed. Its only chance was to capture an American POL facility at Liege, but it was blown up before the German tanks got close. The op caused concern, delayed the US/UK drive, but it was foolhardy, desperate, and unsuccessful.
YES! It was the beginning of Hitler's end!
What? The Battle of the Bulge took place from December 16, 1944 - January 25, 1945.
Today is the 75th Anniversary of VE Day.(Victory in Europe for you WSJ dim bulbs) Why the Battle of the Bulge reboot?
Hitler invaded Russia. Stalingrad was his Waterloo. Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo. Donald Trump called COVID 19 a hoax. That has become his Waterloo!
Last Blunder.
DictatorPope Jackass....75 years ago was VE Day...the Battle of the Bulge. Was 5 months earlier.
SOCIALIST DEMOCRATS ENTERED USA ALSO
kenm77 what a picture
Over one million Canadians fought in WWII from 1939-1945. Not just 42-45 like the USA. Just saying. 🇨🇦
Oh, I know!
they couldn't handle not having a bulge of their own and were defeated
WoW one million?
A little reminder that the political issues we face today are rather small by comparison greatestgeneration
Nice summary article.
1 million Russian soldiers and 1.2 million Wehrmacht soldiers participated. Ended in February 1943 victory Russians over tank army Guderian and capture of field Marshal Paulus
People's Republic of China continues to threaten Japan by North Korean missiles. They continue to suck up huge amounts of money from Japan. Japanese people work a lot and take away American jobs. This pattern has been going on for decades.
Germany’s last big surge to win the war.
johnfund Including my dear brave Dad. Thank you to him and all the wonderful men (and women) who participated! 🇺🇸
We have no concept of what Total War is like .. hope it never happens.
Significant numbers of British and Canadian troops fought in this battle too. At one stage, US forces north of the Bulge were put under the direct command of Field Marshal B.L. Montgomery.
Here’s an oral history interview transcript of my grandfather’s experience during the Battle of the Bulge:
anything for the jews... kill your own people!
so get drunk and watch the army navy game today then
can you imagine millennials to day doing this....!!!!, they would be crying to mommy on the phone, asking for more pampers, and I lost my sucker.
Interesting story, thanks. Brutal conditions and war. 😕
Pearl harbor was the first time & this was the second time the US military got caught with it's pants down in one war. Nice recovery both times 🏴🇨🇦
My Uncle lost his leg in this battle. Worked for the VA and enjoyed the respect of all who knew him. A Kentucky son. I wonder what his soul thinks of the country he served? The party he upheld? The state he loved? I shall vote with my Uncle in mind. Ditch Mitch. Dump Trump.
Google Hurtgen Forest and JD Salinger for the prelude to BB
My uncle fought there and had nightmares for decades afterwards.
Last Gamble? As if this battle meant something. At that point he already lost. Even if he had won there there is no way to turn Soviet offensive around.
My great uncle lost toes to frostbite while hiding in a fox hole from the Germans.
George Patton one of America’s best.
We were caught completely flat footed, just like Pearl Harbor. Had it not been for “the battling bastards of Bastogne” and the weather, the Germans may well have made it all the way to Antwerp.
Bulge Harbour
Things you might not know. The Führer was allegedly fueled by amphetamine shots. Loud agitation, two front war, bombed out capital. Speed is a hell of a dangerous drug.
If today's Republicans were alive when Pearl Harbor happened, 78 years ago, they would have sided with the Japanese and the Nazi's!
Gen. Patton: 'Take no prisoners.'
Feel like you picked the wrong day to talk about that battle. PearlHarbor78 PearlHarborRemembranceDay

2/2 However, the responsible General escaped with a lot of technology allegedly to Argentina. Finally Hitler's WW1 PTSD (blind after chemical weapon exposition)+his aversion of 'jewish' radioactivity research avoided worst. Germany had huge Uranium resources &in Norway D20.
Lot of details of WW2 on German side are still unknown. After war an omerta like rule of silence in place in WesternGermany. BulgeBattle on a military view:senseless. Hitler rejected 1944 'risky' options:Putting all resources on intercontinental (dirty) bomb on NewYork1/2
My grandfather fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He just passed away Nov 24. He would have been 101 yesterday.
It wasn't the biggest engagement of the war. Other battles had more troops, more armor, etc. The Germans had no meaningful military objective; A salient to Antwerp including Brussels would have been indefensible. It was the largest single battle for US troops in Europe.
As I underestand comedian, actor, director Mel Brooks was in the Battle of the Bulge.
My Dad was in the Battle of the Bulge the stories I heard were pretty bad but we come out in victory
Back when ANTIFA was part of being a red blooded American hero. realDonaldTrump never served, by the way, and in fact is a draftdodger.
Im pretty sure Trump was their and defeated the Germans with a toothpick and some shave cream. He of course had a large capacity toilet and only flushed them once. Thus he defeated an evil regime and saved water all at once.
The Germans kicked our asses many times before getting to Germany but we nailed them.
need potion? Mana perhaps? wjs
Your biggest fight was not even close to East front fights, so please stop saying you defeat Hitler, please..
