New promotional art and images for The Batman give a close-up look at Robert Pattinson’s Batmobile. Matt Reeves' reboot is perhaps the most anticipated movie of 2022. Inspired by comics like The Long Halloween and Batman: Year One, the film will follow Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne / Batman as a novice vigilante fighting crime in Gotham City.
Set outside the DC Extended Universe’s continuity, The Batman will introduce many new iterations of well-known characters to its isolated universe. In addition to “Battinson,” the film will feature Jeffrey Wright’s Jim Gordon, John Turturro’s Carmine Falcone, Zoë Kravitz's Selina Kyle / Catwoman, Colin Farrell’s Penguin, and Paul Dano’s Riddler - the latter of which will serve as its main villain.
Based upon what fans have seen during The Batman’s promotional campaign, reception for the new Batmobile has been largely positive, especially when Pattionson’s Caped Crusader is ramming Penguin off the road in the main trailer. While previous versions of the Batmobile, such as the one featured in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, have had more of a tank-like design, The Batman’s version of the Batmobile has more of a muscle car look to it, à la Tim Burton’s Batman films.
One of the biggest complaints some had regarding Nolan’s trilogy was that its grounded approach took away from the franchise’s comic-book feel. Reeves’ unique take looks to remedy that complaint with a neo-noir tone and a Batman still earning his mantle as the “World’s Greatest Detective.
